Rickey Henderson Card Tribute

I didn't see a Rickey card memorial thread so I'll start it. The first Topps year I really got into was 1980. The Rickey card always stood out to me because the yellow and green color combo almost made the card "glow". I didn't realize that Rickey was the one that made the card glow. I bought this in 2008 because I thought PSA 10s were too much, I was wrong!

I just purchased a copy (933xxxxx) from Baseball Card Exchange. I will include it in the January pickups when it arrives.

Rickey has always been one of my favorites and his Topps RC is simply the one to own. Iconic image of his unique batting stance. Sad he passed far too early.

Iconic card, colors, image. Always thought it was cool that his right hand was just about to grip the bat.

I don't have any Rickey Henderson cards to share as my collection is pre-1980. What a great player he was though. One of the few bright spots on the Yankees during their dark period of the mid-late 1980's. He is gone way too young.

Has there ever been a player where every card was probably the coolest of any issue he was a part of?

The dude just never had a bad looking card. The GOAT as far as I’m concerned

Here is mine which I bought this morning from BBCE...

The card has very nice color, spot on registration, beautiful centering...it does have to (2) print fish eyes in dugout background. I will check out corners when I have the card in hand.

His '79 rookie season was the first full season I followed MLB. Ahh, gettin' old. His rookie card protects my Lance Alworth RC. Rickey was special.

His 1977 card was always like the Honus Wagner of minor league baseball cards. Hard to find and has an “art like” nostalgia look to it. RIP GOAT 🐐

    Love it!

"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
