    The first one is spectacular. The second is impressive too, and a decent date. It's generally more appropriate to refer to these as German Empire coins rather than German States (Altdeutschland) since they were made after unification in 1871.

    I think it is simply the crest for Lubeck... off hand I don't know the history behind it or when it first appeared on Lubeck coinage.

    The two-headed eagle on the Lubeck coat of arms represents the Holy Roman Empire, which granted Lubeck the status of Free City in 1227. Only later, with the acquisition of the Imperial title by the Austrians, did the double-headed eagle become symbolic of Austro-Hungary.
