Just got this email from the Mint: "Purchase your 2024 Clad Coins and Sets before January 2, 2025"
Purchase your 2024 Clad Coins and Sets before January 2, 2025
Dear Valued Customer,
The United States Mint works on a cost-recovery basis and our goal is to provide the best quality numismatic products while keeping prices as low as practicable. Unfortunately, due to rising material and labor costs, the United States Mint is raising prices on numismatic clad products.
Effective the morning of January 2, 2025, at 12:00 am ET, product prices for rolls, bags, boxes, and ornaments will increase by 5% and all other clad products will increase by 15%. Prices for all clad subscription products released after January 2, 2025, will be impacted by this change.
We encourage you to take this opportunity to order now prior to the price increase taking effect.

Hmmm….so I wonder, what is the current price per ounce of “clad” 🧐

$28 for four innovation dollars with an intrinsic vale of $.28. Great deal.
Slowly and surely the Mint is curing me of the desire to order anything from them.
we are selling less so we are raising prices?
It seems as though that is the idea, since increasing prices will inevitably lead to fewer units over which to recover their costs, which will lead to more price increases and more people losing interest, until it no longer makes sense to offer the product.
As long as they are charging a healthy margin over face value, which already includes significant seigniorage, they don't "need" price increases, government accounting gimmicks notwithstanding. This is as sure a sign as any that they just want to kill demand. And they will.
The Coin Vault was dumping 2024 Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets on TV last night below cost. So soon after release.
It wasn't that long ago that that set sold out instantly every year. I wonder how many they were forced to buy in order to get access to other things they wanted, like silver medal privys and FH gold coins?
The Mint is killing the Golden Goose, one "cost recovery basis" email at a time.
Inflation can be approached from two sides...rise in prices like this announcement, and shrinkflation, where you pay the same price but get a smaller package...so when do you think the mint will reduce an ounce coin to 9/10ths of an ounce? Same circumference but thinner. You've seen quart soda reduced to a liter, half gallon ice cream reduced to 1.5 quarts, a pound of graham crackers reduced to 15 ounces, I just hope it doesn't reach our coinage....it's bad enough today's dollar is only worth yesterday's quarter.
Pretty much.
Punctuation check.......
"cost-recovery basis"
I cut my orders substantially last year. I'm done and will cancel all remaining subscriptions.

Beginning Jan. 2, 2025, prices for United States Mint clad products for collectors will increase. The adjustment reflects rising material and labor costs over recent years, aligning with broader industry trends, according to the Mint.

I quit buying from the mint in 2021 and never looked back. They have become a "Buy For Loss" program.

They started curing me in the SHQ days when they did side items that they didn't even finish with the series.
Then, about 10 years ago with the hefty increases.
I just couldn't justify myself burdening my heirs with that stuff anymore for the small appreciation I got from it.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
