1964 Nickel Opinions - Worth Grading?

I found this nickel in a recent bankroll. It looks really nice to me, but I am looking for unbiased opinions. Any feedback is appreciated, thank you.

I know why you were showing those closeups, but in the future it would help us much, much more if you could explain why you include certain shots and what you think you see. Regardless, no, that coin is not worth grading. The image below was not produced by me, but I have shown it myriad times on these boards. It is a tremendous resource for folks who examine coins the way you might be doing it. Good luck!

    Face value: 5 cents

    Value if slabbed: 5 cents

It does look nice, but do not see it grading any higher than MS64 at PCGS. It is a long way from full step. Unless there is some sort of sentimental value to you, it would be like buying something that is worth $5 for $35. If you like doing that, I will sell you some $5 slabs for only $25.

I have several toned proofs that I have graded and sold over the years.

Even with the toning, I am lucky to get my money back.

Just feel they should be preserved for their uniqueness.

Even now, DCAM and CAM are tough for me to distinguish.

The series gets very little love but has a dedicated following.

Grading in general for this series is not easy.

My best advice is spend the money and buy some slabbed Full Step coins.

There are some inexpensive examples out there.

Also you can almost build a grading set for not much more than it would cost to submit this coin.

Let those be a comparison if Jefferson Nickels will be a pursuit.

Shipping cost both ways and paperwork handling $$$

    Welcome to the forum!
As others have said, it wouldn’t be worthwhile to have graded.
It would however be a really nice starter coin for an album of Jefferson nickels 😋

I recently cracked an original roll of this same year coin, and have some really clean examples which are tempting to submit. Given the costs and likelihood of actually snagging a full-step or very high grade, I’m hard pressed to take that long shot.

Happy roll searching and have fun!
