Thought you guys might wanna see this.

Assuming it is real, what is the most you would pay someone for this coin?

If you were selling it as it is, what is the least amount you'd want?

First I’d establish my grade, so for this one based on that awful photo, we’ll go xf details. Wholesale bid for
40 is 14k and generally id try to offer around ~50% of that I’d try to get in there for 7 or 8k and make a quick 10-15%.

Often times, I advise clients that if i must make an offer I’m going to have to hedge my bets on details coins and I may not have the best price. I often recommend a consignment where they send me the coins and I’ll start soliciting offers. If they like the sound of one of the offers we get it done and then don’t have to stick my neck out on someone else problem, especially if it ends up being worse than I thought.

Bad plastic, bad photos. I’d rather buy such a coin in a slab from a reputable service. That being said, I’m guessing it’s probably real. Want to roll the dice on that? Your call.

It’s risky on such an expensive coin. And even if the coin is authentic, who knows what kind of hidden problems it might have that were not noted by the slabber? That has been my experience with these “Third World” slabs; more than the issue of authenticity.

If the slab is not compromised, I would bet it's genuine and worth net VF money.

My comments are based on being able to see the coin In person before making a decision. For instance, I could give them an approximate value range and a shipping label. Once I could assess the coin in hand and assign a value within that range.. if they accept- Checks in the mail.

With quality photos and vids, I’d be able to come up with my number, or at least a tighter but it would be contingent of any concealed problems, If the sellers pressed me for a concrete number with no contingencies, it would be a lowball but it would still be cod terms. Under no circumstance would I send payment for that coin up front:!

Did you see my comment on Reddit? I called it 10K on a good day IF it's genuine.

Has the appearance of XF cleaned with a mark or hit near 9:30 by the fourth star. No way to tell if there are other hidden problems from the blurry photos of a multi thousand dollar coin, like ex-jewelry on the edge etc.

Many would prefer a problem free VF over that one. VF wholesale is around 7k so it would likely be less than that without viewing in person. Guessing it is priced far higher.

PeakRarities covered the considerations very well.

I would fear it. If it were an au coin it would have been cracked out already. Obviously what is on the label should be ignored. As far as I am concerned that holder is a blank plastic holder offering the coin protection from handling and nothing more. As far as grading the coin from said photos, it is impossible and the seller knows it. And one has to believe that the seller is presenting a photo that enhances the coin's appearance. So in reality the coin will be much worse than the photo. And lastly knowing what I know about the slabbing company you will be disappointed.

As far as grade goes, I think XF details is correct. There's several reasons to detail that one, but it does appear to be genuine.

I agree. At least from what i can see in the picture it looks like it's been cleaned.

Those were all over ebay in the early 2000 by a real dealer with “optimistic” grades looking for bididiots. Often shilled within an inch of their lives.

That said like anything not all the coins were horrible deals. I got a flashy 89p eagle in an ms63 holder that graded 55 at ANACS that I made a nice turn on in one of those holders around 2005 or 6

The hit at 9:30 alone would appear to push the coin into details land.

    Smitten with DBLCs.

It's a severely wiped details coin.

The obverse picture is horrid, maybe for a reason, but the reverse shows a ton of detail. If the obv is whole and just wiped, not scratched or other surface issues it's still at the very least an $8K coin.
