Why Was This Card Graded?

I’m trying to envision a scenario where someone thought this was a good idea. This card is in the PSA Vault and being offered with a starting bid of $27. 😂

I hope it sells, because if it does, I see a yacht in my future.
It's a low number and the 1972 set was hard to find, especially the low numbers?
The seller thought it was Ted Williams?
The card was accidentally placed in an order, maybe behind another card and PSA just decided to grade it?
It's Stan's Rookie?
Perhaps this gem should travel the world, al a Chuck Knoblauch.
Enjoy the go.
Because someone told the guy that had the card ...they are not worth anything unless they are graded ?

Because a 2 is better than a 1?

They compared it to a bccg 9 before grading?
how much did it cost to grade this card and get that kind of grade.
To be honest, that is one of the only newer cert numbers that they finally graded accurately.
LOOKS LIKE A 4 TO ME, unless im missing a crease.
Result sent to an unknown drone in NJ as a sample of Human stupidity..
Obviously graded for all the collectors doing the 1972 Topps Stan Williams PSA 1 through 10 rainbow.
My best guess is that perhaps someone is seeking a grading reference set for the topps year.
Okay so it’s not the best guess… just all I could come with in an effort to pass the straight face test.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Not a bad idea! I’ve got a 9 already….do I have to do half grades? 🤔
They wanted to sell it as "1 of 1 none graded lower".
Someone didn’t know legendary Cardinal Stan the Man’s last name.
That crossed my mind too. An newbie collector/flipper got his St Louis Stans mixed up.
The owner got it graded in anticipation of finding a corresponding Ted Musial card.

They thought the black dot on Stan's jersey made it a rare error/variation.

Is this why psa won’t make a grading special for pre 2020? Someone paid what 20.00 to grade this .05 card. Only to make it worth another negative if ever sold on eBay.
It truly is amazing what all has been graded in the last 3 years.
Still on the sidelines for me. Seriously the holiday Specials might as well just say 2020-now or Pokémon.
I’m holding out for the 1988-1992 donruss special being a vintage guy.
They did a 1980-UP special in November that was only for about 2 weeks. I don't remember the cut off but I did assemble a few from the early 80s to send. Basically, the end of the ones I have from the 80s to grade.
I'm trying to do new passes through my loose ones to see if there's anything else I have to grade, but once all these are done...
I was going to say, "maybe they wanted a very low pop card."
However, BaltimoreYankee has me beat.
I had to look. It's a pop 2 and there actually is a psa 1 and a few 3's and 4's.
