While this coin is nowhere spectacular, the True View makes it horrendous.
I asked my 6-year-old to take the picture on top with my iPhone 13, I might see what he can do with a close-up on the mirrorless next.
I hate complaining, I'm a happy easy-going guy, just taken back at what is acceptable now.
What do you think?

Looks like the typical product that has been coming from the PCGS photo department. As long as people continue to submit and pay for this low-quality level of photo it will continue to be the norm.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
AAARRRGGHH! PCGS should hire your 6 yr old!

It’s ironic seeing this thread, a few days ago I got a newly graded gold coin in a PCGS holder but it’s a standard holder with no gold shield… For a split second, I thought why??? Why would someone send a nice coin like this and do the cheapest submission option possible, and then I remembered how the current TrueViews look lately…
I am actually glad this is in a standard holder with no bad TrueView permanently attached to it! I really prefer it this way now given how these TrueViews look…
If I buy a coin in gold shield, it will have to be one from at least two years ago or longer to guarantee a quality picture.
I really hate this! PCGS gold shield used to be my absolute favorite choice for grading coins and now that is not the case at all.

I'm still amazed that PCGS has not addressed this crisis.
Accurate coin photos are essential to this trade/hobby.
TrueView imaging was once the gold standard in coin photography.....what happened?
The Trueview makes it look XF at first glance

Disappointing.
Boy am I ever glad to hear you are an easy going guy. I won't say anything about not complaining while my wife is in the room. James

The TrueView by itself would truly lessen my demand for the coin. It's a shame. Your picture reveals the coin to be nice, a fact cleverly concealed by the TrueView.
TV problem I agree but your lighting is probably overly optimistic
I disagree, cheap light and a cell phone pic shouldn't showcase it better than a true view. My light turned it much more yellow than it is too. It's an inexpensive widget, just makes a person pause about sending in anything with much value if this is the outcome.
What you're seeing in the TV is a low and flat overall lighting angle, which brings out the "toning". If you bring the lights higher, you get more of what the cell phone pics show.
Coin Photographer.
You bring up the lighting and it will look washed out, over exposed, wiped, etc. Not defending the TV just emphasizing there is give and take, pros and cons with lighting. Still should be a better compromise in that particular photo.
Well it is a true view of the coin, but yours through the plastic, looks better. Put that on your resume. You might get hired.
