REA Last Night…Any Purchases?

mintonlyplsmintonlypls Posts: 2,069 ✭✭✭✭✭

None for me. I did have eight (8) lots for sale…happy with the results except for 1975 Rack Pack with a nice Nolan Ryan on top which I apparently paid way too much.

An interesting, rare item for sale was a complete 1962 Jello Box in extremely nice condition with Mickey Mantle on back, which sold for an astonishing $43,200!!!

  • I didn’t either, there was a stunning 73 Ryan 9 and the 71 Topps 2nd series vending. I should of pulled the trigger on the Ryan though, I’m now regretting it

That’s a beautiful Jackie. Top to bottom centering doesn’t bother me nearly as much as side to side. Nice pick up.

    Brad...

Very nice pickup, congrats! You are on a Jackie Robinson binge. I, also, will give up centering and corners for eye-popping color.

Agree that off-centering side-to-side appears worse than top-to-bottom.

Agree I was under bidder and wouldn’t go higher. Was just too much above VCP.

There were several nice Ryan’s, were they all yours?

‘74 Ryan PSA-9 was mine, also.

  • It was nice, the 69 in 8 was nice but I really liked the 73

Concentrating my collection on the 50s and 60s in 8, 8.5 and 9s. Currently, I have 99 cards in my collection with 91% in 8, 8.5 or 9s. 78/99 are either 8.5 or 9s. I’m looking to pickup a 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson RC PSA-2 to PSA-4 currently on EBay.

That 1916 Babe Ruth rookie with that back was very cool to see and sold for over 800k. The ticket stub to Jackie Robinson's 1st MLB game and the rare error T205 did very well.

Congrats on the wins everyone. I ended up not making a run at any of the items I placed initial bids on. I was interested in a few of the 1969 Topps baseball sets. By the time I logged back in during the lot-by-lot closing, the prices were up at about what I was willing to go to. I could have bumped it up one notch but I didn't really feel like taking a flier hoping there would be some low pops that were well centered and in high grade.

I should clarify, I was speaking of my preferences on cards in general about top/bottom and side/side centering . Not this card. Sorry if that came across wrong. Beautiful card!

Landed a big one for me. With ‘49 Bowman I prize color over all else. Centering didn’t bother me with the trade-off in color and corners. There were 3 I was going hard after - ‘57 Mays SGC 7, ‘56 Mantle SGC 7 and this one. The Mays and Mantle both went for more than I expected. The Robinson went for less - the centering must have kept people away. So excited to add this card:

I just spit on my screen, are you kidding me .... centering didn't bother you? What the hell is wrong with the centering in the first place. Great card and great pick up.

I bid what I thought was strong on the leaf which was not centered as well as this bowman but I never even thought there was an issue as the color and print was exception al and the side to side also exceptional. Top to bottom centering is the least distracting thing on a card and least impact on the grade. congrats!!!

Thanks for the kind words on the Jackie - my centering was me trying to understand why I might have won it for less than I was expecting while the Mays I expected to win went for higher than I thought. Could not be happier to win this one and it is definitely one of my favorite cards in my collection.
