Question regarding submitting your cards to 4SC.

When a collector sends cards to 4SC are they allowed to bid on their cards? I'm assuming you can but I would like to confirm this. I have not nor will I ever send cards to 4SC. I'm just curious on the process.

I'm 100% positive there is no mechanism to prevent that - nor any desire from anyone involved to have one. Consign card to 4SC they place on eBay you shill it up with one of your many ebay ID's. ebay has no idea you are 4sc's consignee and 4SC has no knowledge of your ebay ID's...

Shilling I'm sure is SOP for most consignees, after all they are trading card sellers!

So lets say a collector wanted no less than $1,000 for a certain card. The collector could submit the card to 4SC and bid it up to $1,000. Then hopefully someone bids higher and they are good to go. If nobody else bids higher than $1,000, the shill bidder (the collectors buddy ) does not make a payment and the collector still has the card.

Is this happening that much? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I was out of the hobby for over two decades. If this type of example is common it helps explain a lot of the sales I have been monitering.

Shilling and Manipulation is the norm. Outliers and Exceptions is when it does not occur. Sellers on this forum will scoff and disagree with me and that's fine, but keep in mind they have a $$$ based interest in having folks think all is on the up and up and I do not. I've sold under 5 cards in my lifetime and none in the last 15 years - I'm a "black-hole" collector.

BTW above pertains to this thread topic which is consignments to entities like 4SC, COMC, etc... of course if card does not hit the unknown minimum sought Probstein will simply not send the cards then Ghost the buyer and eventually buyer is refunded by ebay, assuming they don't wait too long. Based on their eBay feedback that is normal for Probstein. Apparently eBay make$ enough from him that they accept it as part of doing business - go figure.

In some weird, twisted, parallel evil universe, that's what we are. There should be a measure of gratitude offered to the ne'er-do-wells, as they have persuaded the card market to pay more simply by inflating values as a habit. Those of us do sell get that as a benefit. Which is why some of us love to sell back into a feeding frenzy when or wherever possible.

    Enjoy the go.

The collector doesn't have the card. 4 Sharp Corners will auction it in the following week if it is unpaid and the non-paying bidder will be blocked.

Correct but in the next auction the collector can still have someone make a bid up to $1,000 and start the process all over again.

  • I caught on to the 4SC bidding early on. People used to bid up 4SC prices. Then I did the opposite. I bid it up and stopped. This way the shill ends up paying. They’ve smartened up a little but I no longer buy from 4SC. Their loss, not mine.

  • I don’t think they miss you. I don’t know if people bid up their consignment or not. I send them cards all the time and never bid on one. If it does happen and it probably does, doesn’t matter. You didn’t want to go higher and he didn’t want to sell it at a different price. To say bidding on your item is wrong is an opinion. Car Auctions owners bid up their cars, same with race horses, Art, and many other things. I have a price I’ll pay and if I’m outbid I’m outbid. I no longer care who may of bought back or overpaid

  • To say that 4SC doesn’t miss me is laughable. They used to auction off plenty of hockey with opening bids of a dollar. Over half their auctions now have an opening bid of $10 dollars and have zero bids (completed). I managed to change something…..

Lol, they don’t miss you, wouldn’t miss me either and I send them hundreds of cards on consignment every year.

  • I gave them 74 cards on Saturday at The Philly Show for consignment. I dont bid on my stuff. I have to say I completely love the consignment experience with them after getting set up with them. I walk up to their booth, they ask them my name, I hand them boxes of cards, dont have to do a ton of data entry myself, they list them, take a reasonable cut and put my money in Paypal.

Years ago I did not have a great feeling about 4 Sharp Corners. We used to calm them 3 Sharp Corners. It was frustrating looking for cards and buying some of theirs that looked overgraded. But this version of them I like a lot.
