Insulting coin ad in 12/3 WSJ
BOY, does this bring me back to my consumer reporting days in the 80s and 90s. I would report on similar ads at least 2 or 3 times a year to keep viewers from falling for them. Perhaps you saw it in the paper. I hope expanding the screenshot won't blur the ad too badly.
Of course, the come-ons are rare, never seen again, get 'em NOW, VEGAS, baby!, blah, blah, blah. Way down in the ad is the admission that the Ikes will be, minimum, VGs. And it says so as if Very Good is outstanding. Each Ike is 7 bucks. 7 bucks for a common VG Ike. Naturally, y'all know that except for the 1972 Types 2 and 3, any VG Ike is worth face value.
I've been retired from broadcast journalism for 14 years. And this type of ad still pisses me off mightily. Hopefully, no one in your friends/family circle will fall for it. After all, they have you to guide them.
"Brother, can you spare a dime?" (Especially a 1975 no S proof?)

I keep a roll of them to use to buy lemonade from kids selling lemonade in the Summertime, and sometimes as part of my tip money to a young restaurant worker with a good attitude. I buy them from a coin dealer friend for a tiny premium.
This is very little different from the "hotel buyer" ads from the late 1970s where they would take over a hotel and paid next to nothing to anything that came in. We hung around the front a time or two and asked folks if they were selling coins and what they thought those folks would offer them (based on the buying prices in the newspapers. We would take a look and offer significantly more and it worked until they chased us off.
We also sat hung out down the street from police gun buybacks and could see what most people were bringing to trade for $25 or $50 gift cards and bought a lot of collectible weapons for $100 each. The police chased us off from there also. Here is Georgia it is legal to buy and sell guns to people who are eligible to buy them on a person to person basis with no background checks and no bills of sale required.
Same here in FL. I have been to auctions where they get rid of those guns pretty quickly. Much different than it is in IL where I used to live. There they won't sell you a gun until you sell your soul, or so it seems.

Yes, what a ripoff! Things like this will only turn off people who are potential collectors, when they realize they have been taken.
As a special bonus, if you order in the next ten minutes you'll get a second one absolutely free. Just pay an additional $19.99 shipping and handling.
