A lot of the posters here seem to find it funny that a lot of the banned posters here post at NGC. Long before my time, this place used to be more like the Wild West and the hammer fell accordingly. Anyone familiar with the archives is familiar with this. Anyone familiar with most of these posters also knows that some of them are incredibly knowledgeable about coins.

I will say that the hit rate on a thread over at NGC having actual numismatic worth is much much higher than it is here. CAC and NGC are about equal IMO.

    The below is ALL OPINION.

A look at NGC's forum today and I'd say that 14/25 threads there on the front page have true numismatic worth (or something that someone (me) can take something meaningful from). That's 56%.

    CAC is 15/26, or 57%.

    PCGS has 12/50 or 24%.

I've never visited the NGC forum so I can't comment but you are spot on, the posters on the CAC board, on average, are incredibly knowledgeable and seasoned numismatists who are happy to share their thoughts. In particular, I wish Roger Burdette was over here.

The downside is that many of them act like medium to enormous a******* and they are happy to share their thoughts on ANY topic, whether germane, desired, or not. I can call them out and start an argument; you've seen how that goes. Or just read the sh**** little nuggets they drop from time to time without comment; I rarely have the ability to do this.

I have stopped visiting the CAC forum because it is so unpleasant and the gain in numismatic knowledge is not worth dealing with so many and such a high percentage of crappy personalities.

You and I have bumped heads and from what I have read we both have detractors or have possibly been blocked. Thus, people probably view at lest me as being a crappy poster. Nevertheless, I don't think I have posted misinformation while stirring the pot. I'm an old guy who grew up in the old days before political correctness, snowflakes, etc. I can't even post some of the names we called each other because some young pup here raised by (self edit) teachers will get offended. My point is this:

Some of the best teachers, bosses, mentors, and idols of mine were/are jerks with crappy personalities BUT THEY KNEW/KNOW THEIR STUFF! I want the info and I don't care how they deliver it to me. In my world, no one would ever get banned - denying others from their knowledge. I say bring back Roger and this Realtone guy I've been accused of being. Look for new discussion.

You're missing the point and/or have different goals than myself and many others.

This is a hobby. It's supposed to be fun. Whether there is agreement or not on any political or other (non-numismatic) controversial topic, this is not the place to post them. Whether you think someone is a snowflake, politically correct, or whatever is irrelevant; this is a coin forum to discuss coins. This is where many of us come to escape politics, name calling, and the other divisive junk/people you reference.

As @FlyingAl pointed out, we spend an inordinate amount of time bickering rather than discussing the hobby (I am guilty of this very often). Politics et al supercharge that bickering. To paraphrase myself from another forum:

There are infinite places to discuss politics. Apparently infinity places minus the [PCGS] forum is not acceptable.

Roger is fantastic and deserves to be here and I have never seen him post anything even a little bit off color. Realone is an insane person and doesn't add anything other than a large budget and some attractive coins.

You opened a reason I was getting ready to post about. I'm a member of five coin forums. All are different an better at one thing over the other. NGC is the most inactive of them all HOWEVER, IMO anyone who does not check as many sources of info as they can is cheating themselves. As you wrote, many posters on other forums have been banned from here or only post in one of the forums.

See my comment just above yours. Any suggestions for me?

Yes, but I don't know if I'm allowed top promote other forums. What is your main interest? Foe example, one forum is best for ancients and world coins (not CU). You already mentioned CT. That is the best for beginners. It was the first one I joined.

@lermish, I don't like the whinners who don't like the way other people interact. It has to do with the way they were raised not anything else. When someone (me for example) has to tip toe around a subject so as to be sure not to offend anyone it is unnatural. It has to do with the way I was raised.

I have not looked into the archives to read Realtone's post yet. Based on your comments I was mistaken about him being a worthwhile poster.

PS Are you writing the Trade dollar book?

Of course, the TPG-hosted forums are not the only ones for our hobby. This is the second one this relative newbie joined. The first was the Coin Community Forum. When I mentioned the name of a certain dealer in passing, my post was deleted and I got a nasty note. No need for the nastiness. Then I wrote back questioning the response and its tone. I got an even nastier response, a wish that I would have sex with myself (though not in those exact words), and banishment.

Because I want to learn and bounce things off like-minded folk, I'll ask everyone: any other numismatic forums worth our time?

Try CoinTalk; it’s open to discussion on any tpg and I haven’t heard of anything there like your CCF experience.

I don’t know of a poster “Realtone” but I do of a “Realone”.

If you guys don't like the NGC or CAC forums then definitely never go on reddit.

I like Reddit. Most of the idjits don't realize I'm being sarcastic. I once had somebody contact the mods to do a wellness check. Called that a win!
