One Year on the Forum

Today marks one year since I joined the coin forum here at Collectors Universe. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has helped me out and given me advice over this time period. Thanks to everyone here I have engaged in many lively discussions about all matters of numismaticly related (and some not so numismaticly related) things over 1,940 posts, learned tons about various varieties, learned at least somewhat how to grade a coin properly, and even bought my first pre-1933 gold coin, stuff that I never thought that I would do. I hope that next year is just as great, and the years to come even better.
Thank You Everyone Here For Your Helpfulness and Willingness to Contribute

No, I have not. Seems to risky at the present moment. I don't want to send in my first order only to get details coins!
Also, I would have to create an account with a TPG, and fill out a form, which some say are confusing, and then there is the problem of what do I pay with. I don't have a credit card yet, only a debit, and I am not sure how online payment methods work. I would need someone to walk me through it.

I use the PCGS website for orders, makes it very easy and I use a debit card. The hardest part is deciding which coins to send in.
But you gotta start somewhere. My first sub was around 8 cents from the sixties and I was quite sure they were gonna grade MS67. They came back 64/65 lol still have them.

I'll start putting together a list of coins. We'll see what I narrow it down to. I do want to have the 1881 eagle graded just for fun to see how accurate Dan's grading was.

Dan said that he thought that it would grade as a 58. What do you think?

These are through a plastic flip. The second set is at an angle to show the luster, which is very nice.

I can’t seem to show the luster correctly.

You need a white light the yellow is blending with the yellow gold. Diffuse the white light with a napkin or coffee filter for possibly better pics. If Dan says 58 then it's most likely 58 or 55. I can see the rub in the hair so MS is out. And I don't know enough to say how much the gouge hurts it. Anyway even at 55+ you only stand to profit $100 which isn't worth the risk of shipping and possibly losing it.

I'm having more luck searching mint sets than rolls especially modern bank rolls. Searching hundreds of boxes only yielded 5 or 6 MS68 zincs and a few MS67 coppers. PCGS yielded several thousand :D

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Two photos of same coin ?
If it’s a late die state, MS 62. Looks a little mushy. If not, AU58.

Yes, they are different photos of the same coin. I don't have the most high resolution camera, so it looks mushy. I lurked here for about a year before I joined, for the simple reason that I didn't have an email address. The day that I got one I joined.

Yes, a white light is a good idea. I'll give it a try. I wouldn't be grading it for value, just for sentimentality.

I like your posts - so what's the total haul for the year in 40% and 90%?

For this year alone? Probably around 50 or so war nickels, maybe 75 silver dimes, one quarter, around 10 90%ers and 30 40%? I won't have an exact answer until I get my records straight. I haven't hit the half boxes hard this year, I focused more on nickels and dimes. My current weekly order is five boxes of dimes and one of halves, but for most of the year it has been 3x nickels, 2x dimes, and 1x halves. I usually have the time to do 6 or 7 boxes a week, more if they are dimes, less if they are nickels or quarters. I will make a detailed report sometime in early January, so stick around for that.
