1971-S cent, possible double die obverse?

Hello Everyone,
Being new to collecting, I believe that I came across a 1971-S cent that is a double die cent. Looks too sharp for a hub strike. Like to get your thoughts from the forum.

Thanks,

    Agree with @IkesT

But you are looking in the right spot. Plus your pictures are great!

Great photos but they just highlight the Machine / Mechanical Doubling.

It is a strike double. Think of it like the die rattles a little bit when striking the coin leaving a doubling effect. It is very common on Lincolns from the 60's - 70's. A doubled die is the as the name states the die was carved twice not in alignment.

  • Thanks everyone for the knowledgeable feedback, I will try to use the correct terminology as I learn it on any future posts.

    Thanks again

We all need time to understand the process of minting. It's a learning experience. Don't be afraid to post a pic and just ask us for information. Just point out what you think you see and we'll respond. No problem.
