Hobo Heart
This was my first try at a hobo nickel.
Made in 2002 it was a 1982 D nickel.
I wanted something simple, so a shape was about as easy as you can get.
I was digging through some old stuff today and found it.

While I'm on the subject about hearts....
This is my other heart that just about killed me.
A little over a month ago I had a heart attack and was in the hospital for 4 days.
They wanted to do a triple bypass because 2 arteries are 100% blocked and the only working one was 90% blocked.
I told them "No Thanks" on the triple bypass.
The only option to keep me alive was to put stents in the one working artery.
I went in on the 18th and ended up in the ICU for 5 days, I've been home since Friday.
It was supposed to be an outpatient (1 day) procedure.
I am feeling better and have more time to look at coins.

Glad you're home and on the mend!
Wow... Glad you're still with us, quite the scare! Get some rest.
Be careful, don't overexert yourself...(that means NO LIFTING HEAVY COINS!)...seriously though, take it easy.
Cool job on making a Hobo Nickel....so how is that actually done? I'd like to try it.
That nickel is beautiful!! Outstanding job!! Yes, how is it actually done. What tools do you use?
Glad you're still here to explain this to us! 👍 👍

.You did a great job on the nickel. Hope your recovery is swift

Thanks for the replies!
I didn't know how to do it or what tools to use. I also have no specialty engraving tools. I just started scratching and cutting at it with an Xacto knife and a small eyeglass screwdriver. It was a trial & error type of thing. It was all done by hand and no power tools were used.
Wishing you a quick recovery.

I just got an idea, maybe I need to find a 2024 nickel and do a broken heart on it and carry it as a lucky pocket piece.
If I decide to do it I will post updates and in process photos here.
Great hobo nickel, with no power tools, no less
I'm glad your back on your feet, but I hope you'll take another look at the bypass. Many years ago my grandfather had a multiple bypass (don't recall how many) and it gave him a new lease on life and many more years.
I guess that's how they were originally made. I was thinking some kind of small Dremel tool.

That is why I did it that way.
Glad to hear you are ok @ifthevamzarockin
May you recuperate fully and enjoy many, many years of good health
