Westchester Stamp, Coin, & Currency Show 11/29 + 30 @ Tarrytown Marriott

Is anybody going? I should be stopping by Friday.

Will @scarsdalecoins have a table this time around? I usually only see 1 stamp table, mostly coins and currency.

How has this show been ? Last time I went, attendance and dealers were down....the Mt. Kisco show had stolen some of their thunder.

I'm waiting for them to bring the treasure chest back.

I was working for Murray Altman at those shows 50 years ago-remember that Easton?

Yup - I remember those times. We were able to buy deep mirror Morgans for $3.25 each when average mint states were selling for $2.75. No one wanted to buy the deep mirror examples because they were too expensive. i bought many of them and still have them -ungraded in 2x2s. I did have one graded and it came back from our hosts as 67 DMP. You still have yours? Wow! They were the good old times..... holy cow - 50 years ago...... I don't feel my age........

Remember Vince Philpi? During the 1970s he sold gem type for 2-3 times what ordinary BU coins were bringing and had few takers. He had beautiful coins.....for a price. Too expensive for me, although I did purchase a DMPL 81S Morgan from him that had the most reflective mirrors that I've ever seen on a business strike. I paid the premium price of $11 for that one while his other DMPLs were priced at $9. Bagmarks held it down to a 64DMPL when it was finally submitted about 20-30 years ago. Sold it on Ebay for $100 something back then and have regretted it ever since. Oh well. Plenty of other interesting coins out there, and paper, too.

I remember Vince - So BTW - was that 1881S that you promised to sell to me???? I still remember that coin and love it. Wonder where that coin is today? Do you remember Shoreham coin with Sal? Jerry later joined him when Coin Galleries of Westchester closed. I am showing my age as we are going back to the mid 70s.

I took a lot of pictures at the old county center; we've lost many quality dealers such as JJ Van Grover, Gary Parietti, Vince Blume and others.

And Earl Pelton, the show owner/organizer, of course. "And don't forget the treasure chest....." I remember when Gary P. hid the chest once right before the drawing, causing a panic.

I think that Vince Philpi came down from Pittsfield, MA for the show. Dealers came from New England, upstate NY and Long Island, NJ, Pennsylvania and even a few from further south.

I'll have to plead the fifth on that.

What was the other guy's name on Martine Ave.-the dealer we called "the French accent". I don't think that the accent was French-maybe he was Eastern European? That wasn't Shoreham, was it? I remember Coin Galleries-they were the other dealers in W.P., on Post or Martine, past Mamaroneck?

Sellitstore - Your close! remember that was about 50 years ago. The French accent - no clue what his name was. Jerry worked in Coin Galleries of Westchester. Shoreham Enterprises was another dealer operated by Sal Falsco and I think that his shop was in Long Island that attended the Westchester show. Sometime later Sal moved to Arizona and brought Jerry there. When I was in Arizonia, I met up with him and caught up on some old times. That was a old time ago. IS it coming back to you????? Please don't fact check this!

Vince had a lot of coins that would not slab today due to grade or color or both as I recall. And Chip Gambino who owed a body shop in Croton and specialized in type and commems, a real mensch.
