To everyone who has been to winter Fun, where do you recommend staying while attending the show?
Does any close (walking distance) hotels/motels offer discounts for FUN?
Will be attending at least the Thur & Fri. Maybe Saturday.
Any recommendations on restaurants?
Any other general recommendations?
Will be driving down. 13 hour trip.
Hope to see some of you there. By what I’ve read, it’s a top list show!

There are quite a few hotels within 15 minutes walking, same with restaurants. Best to go to Google Maps and see what is there and make choices. You will enjoy this show, it is the most active of the year.
Best, SH
I don't know, I drive down for one day only. What days are you planning on being there?

There’s also good info on the show’s website: www.funtopics.com
Enjoy this great show & good luck!

We booked the Rosen hotel (with the nice swimming pools), which is very close to the convention center. Got the FUN rate as well; it was quite a bit less than booking thru travel websites.

Just made reservations through the FUN web site.
Staying the Rosen Centre. Received the FUN rate.
Also, is there any benefits to joining the FUN coin club, membership is $20.00.
Does it offer any perks for the show?

The "benefit" is to support the club that sponsors the show. Other than that, no.
Admission is free for everyone. Early bird costs extra for everyone. You get a magazine 4x per year, and you get to vote in their elections. And, you get to support a worthy cause. Beyond, that, no benefits.
Take the family to Disneyworld?
I did that last year (the only way I could justify flying from the west coast after I promised myself only direct flights for coin shows). That must have been the most walking over a 4 day span that I've ever done.
Arrive Wednesday afternoon and depart Saturday morning.
Have always enjoyed road trips, easily 1 day trip, but will take 2 days each way.
Will seek out LCS’s on the way down and back.
Also, how many members here are dealers that will have a table at the show?

I assume that Dan will be there, he is closer than I am.

@PeakRarities will be there 100%!

HST, the mag alone is worth $20/yr, I find the articles to be on par with any other numismatic periodical and perhaps more……………..
Table #339 please stop by………….
Ehh. I'm not a fan of their recycling articles when they don't have enough content to fill a magazine 4 times a year. Especially when a significant portion of two of them is devoted to show recaps.
I don't really expect much, but I don't pay for the magazine. I pay because I like what they do and I want to support them, but their magazine isn't in the same league as The Numismatist. Or even Coin World for that matter.
I’ve always wanted to attend this show but timing is terrible for corporate America folks. We work very little just before Christmas to right after New Years…. Then it’s maxed out.
Also with a FUN member “greatly discounted rate” is the Orlando Hilton, just next door to the Convention Center. That ‘s where I’ll be staying. That’s why I pay the annual dues of $20 - to get that big discount on the Hilton. I also enjoy their quarterly magazine, which is a bonus thrown in on top of the hotel discount.

Because you have to be a member to get the show rate at any of their hotels? Since when?
That’s the impression I’m under, since to get those rates, the reservation must be made through FUN on THEIR form, and apparently it won’t work via directly with the hotel. But give it a shot, as my understanding may be incorrect.

My understanding is that membership is 100% optional. Their website does not require login credentials.
Anyone can use their links to book hotel rooms. You are correct that you need to use their links to get their rates, but anyone who knows where to look can use them. You neither need to be a FUN member, nor actually even attend the show.
You may be correct. I had the other impression.

I believe you need to be a member to get the early bird pass. You can pay online with a CC. The membership will cost $20.75 and the early bird pass is $103.00. The pass will get you in the door on Wednesday, set up day at 2PM. It will also get you in early, each day of the show. I have found this to be worth the cost.
