Why do people such as myself spend so much of our lives posting our opinions in the Internet forums with others doing the same thing? It is about 4PM where I live and I have been posting on-and-off since 10AM! I need to get a life.

OCD, boredom, come to mind.
Need to connect with people. It is in our nature to want to talk with like minded people (camaraderie). Feels good. Sharing what we know and learning from others is a big part of it at least for me. Been able to see coins I would never get a chance to see outside these forums. And many other reasons.

''Need to get a life''....well this is part of who we are so part of our lives otherwise we would not be here. Why replace it if it causes no harm and makes us happy.

Shared knowledge, while some posts are just filled with garbage, off topic, and opinions; there is still some knowledge that is shared here now and then. That is what I come here for, and who doesn't love a good train wreck now and then.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Entertainment? Fulfills a need for some to debate, disagree, inform?
Compulsive. If you were running you would rack up a lot of miles.

Entertainment, interaction, mental stimulation, fun, and education come immediately to mind.

An addictive factor has been created on most online forums. Likes, agrees, LOL, we can get a pretty quick reaction. And beyond the occasional shutdown, most forums never close. You can post gems at two in the morning, that others can enjoy at their convenience.
I Just over two hours reading 14 pages + links on the Rare plastic discussion. I was not interested in it but what an eye opener it turned out to be and who knew how expensive and neat some stuff is! I have got to get up and eat but I can't stop the CU addiction. This is the best place ever.
For me it's a way to learn and pass on knowledge. In the process you can also build relationships depending on your level of activity.
I think sometimes we just want to do some things, to our hearts content, for many reasons. Perhaps interaction or even escape to some degree from other things we don't want to do at that time.
I doubt you hurt anyone by doing this.
I appreciate that you learned some new things.
I like looking at the pretty pictures of rare coins.
Alan, my opinion is that you are either seeking companionship or free therapy.
I'm also of the opinion that this post is pitiable and ludicrously off topic.
My final opinion is that you are an alt of @Realone . I wasn't around during your heyday but I've heard the stories and read as many of the old posts that I could find (the ones quoted by others because the mods deleted all of your posts). Given what I've heard, I'm not surprised by any of your posts.
That's all I have, I didn't hold anything back.
I learn a massive amount from reading and commenting. In fact I have accounts with five different coin forums I am so into it. I don't think that I would still be collecting without them.

You might be onto something here…
was never sure if he was supposed to be the “real one”, or “re-alone” 🤔
Are you a police officer?
I heard that you couldn't Offend a police officer
It's part of the job to not get Offended.
Sounds like you need a hobby...
Sounds like you need to work at the Post Office.
I agree.

Agree, I was suppose to clean and mop out the garage before the relatives come over. When the wife returns Tuesday, There will be heck to pay!
I don't see Alan's post. Look, I just spent most of Sunday on several forums . I was at the computer from AM to PM. No football, nothing. The wife was away but I'm not lonely! @MarkFeld and @jmlanzaf were on -and-off posters with me. I have no regrets but there must be a mental reason connected with pleasure. Likes don't matter to me. I suppose it would be nice to have five stars and have all the answers but I'll never get that far. I'm too old. I'm looking for the reasons people post. I've received lots of them. I just know that sitting in a chair in front of a computer most of the day yesterday CANNOT BE NORMAL but it was enjoyable. I do not wish to become addicted but the info being passed on six different forums - including politics should not be missed. Perhaps it is a chemical thing in the brain. I guess the answer is moderation; bur who wants to moderate pleasure?
Good luck, hope you can play some catchup. > @Married2Coins said:

I'm retired with lots of time and still have challenges with the honey do list, even with 36 years of practice, but have improved from D- to C/C- grade. Imagine if wife graded me!
It’s a harmless and sometimes educational way to pass the time. I can think of tons of worse ways to spend part of one’s day.
You asked for sincerity.
I would prefer that you would read more and write less.

I've gained tons of knowledge by asking questions....reading debates between veterans....and learning about history from those who collected in the 1960's - 1980's.
