2004-D re-engraved Jefferson Nickel
Good morning, I have noticed in the last few weeks, there has been a few discussions on other sites about re-engraving. I think I saw a video pop up talking about a re-engraved ribbon. So my next statement is, about a 53 nickel ,i saw that had some work done on a S. I believe all the work though has been on proof coins. Quite a few years ago, I found this 04 - D, and most of the obverse, has been touched some how. So now I'm looking for your opinions, about this coin. I used only my phone camera, and very poor lighting, so I apologize now. The bottom line is if you want to see it it's there, if you don't want to look for it, try not to kill me with your comments. Thanks for your time, I'm hoping to get enough positive feedback to send it out for grading. I'm hoping this is the biggest cash cow of the century. Haha I'm kidding, I would like to grade it though if it's worth it. I know the look like the same pics, I tried to move them just a little and keep changing the word in the pic. The upside down one you can see the bottom of the of the letters, especially the W. Thanks again.

Your train of thought is confusing, to say the least. What exactly are we supposed to be looking for?

My guess is die wear and circulation damage, with maybe some machine doubling thrown in.
I'm not sure they re-engrave dies anymore.
Can't really tell from the photos. Where is the area of main interest? Is it the upper parts of IN GOD WE TRUST? One photo kind of hints at heavier lines on upper TRUST, but cannot tell with the photos, whether damage, lighting, etc. Sorry.
I see an extra serif on the G of God and some other letter tops by the rim. This is seen frequently in the 1938 proof Jefferson nickels. It needs to be recognized before any TPG will mention it. Here is varietyvista page for Re-engraved design for 1938 obverse.

The ones the TPGs recognize are the Fs-40x which are varieties listed in the CherryPickers Guide.
What you have right now is a XF nickel worth 5 cents. It would be a waste of $50 to send anywhere to get graded.
Send it to PCGS for grading on the theory you'll learn from your mistake.
i heard the express walk thru is like totally awesome.
