Mintage Limit vs Product Limit

Another newbie topic: the attached pertains to the 2024 silver Flowing Hair medal from the US Mint website.

Q1. Does this mean that the Mint is authorized to produce 75,000 medals, but has only produced (and sold) 50,000 to date?

Q2. What decides whether the Mint will produce the full 75,000?

Q1, sort of "yes". Since this is a medal there was no congressionally mandated or authorized mintage - 75,000 was the mint's chosen number, but so far they've only minted 50,000. Presumably they'll stick to that as the limit since it was announced and medals sold with that expectation.

Q2, the mint decides. They may well just leave it at 50,000, but they could in theory come up with a new "product" where the remaining 25,000 could be minted and sold.

There have been numerous cases over the years where they have split coin mintages among multiple products.
