My Inventory vs. Price Guide
As I was looking over My Inventory with coins that I have registered with PCGS I noticed almost all of them are the same value when comparing with the PCGS Price Guide.
However, I do see some that are different, some with quite a spread.
The My Inventory value of these coins were not manually entered by me, but show up as an auto generated price.
For instance, I will use a few as examples.
My Inventory Value Vs. PCGS Price Guide Value
Coin A - $1350 Coin A - $1650
Coin B - $2250 Coin B - $3350
Coin C - $3500 Coin C - $4500
Coin D - $6500 Coin D - $8250
There may be more if I continued to search for them.
I just thought that they were "connected" and automatically updated with each other, but I guess not.
Which pricing would you be more inclined to use for your own "Collection Value?"
Low, Average of both, or?
I hope I was clear with my question, I tried to explain the best I could.
Thanks for the feedback.

I’d do research and use values that I thought were realistic, regardless of what appeared in any particular price guide

I find PCGS price guide to be optimistic. With that said it's still a useful tool. I use it to check auction prices.
If you click on the coins grade it will take you to auctions for that grade.
Maybe not completely accurate but does show some pricing history.

Depends on the coin. Some are just so damn good the price guide doesn’t matter. Some are lucky to have gotten the grade they did.
When placing a value on my coins that I plan to keep, or for just tallying the value of my collection, I go with the price guides. When thinking about selling adding to my collection, I’m looking at auction prices, if available and docking a chunk (30%?) off the price guides.
Doesn’t work for everything, but it’s fairly easy and so like thinking I have a collection with a high “value” even if I know no one would ever pay me that much for it.
As to the linking of My Inventory and the PCGS price guide, I have no idea.
The price guides tend to be severely inflated over what you can actually realize out in the real world. Greysheet bid or 10-20% back works well when acquiring. My experiences, if you value according to the tpg price guides you will find yourself bankrupt quickly. ~Sid
I believe everyone so far has completely misinterpreted the point/concern posed by the OP, which I’ll explain in a moment. But if by chance I’m wrong, then obviously everyone above is correct, lol.
I believe he’s noticed that for the large majority of the coins in his PCGS Set Registry Inventory, when he looks at the “Current Value” entry for those coins, the computer program of PCGS has worked properly, by automatically showing each of those values to be identical to the values shown for those dates/grades in the PCGS Price Guide. That is, as PCGS regularly updates their PCGS Price Guide values, both up and down, in theory the “Current Value” figures in his PCGS Set Registry Inventory are supposed to change automatically to reflect those new price values.
However, @LeeBone has noticed, as I periodically have, that a few of the coins have a “Current Value” shown that have NOT been automatically updated by the PCGS computer system as it should have. He correctly pointed out that if by chance HE had at one time manually entered a figure in the “Current Value” column, then that would keep the PCGS computer system from automatically updating that figure for that coin. However, he indicates he did not make that error, yet the computer did not update the “Current Value” figures to match those currently as shown in the PCGS Price Guide for some coins!
As indicated, I’ve occasionally noticed that very same thing on some of my coins, but I found a solution! In the “My Inventory” area, at the far right area, the “Upload/Details” area is activated as hotlinks. Click on “Details” for the coin that is showing a “Current Value” that is not matching that currently shown in the PCGS Price Guide. That brings you to a screen that shows at the top, images of that coin such as the True View if there is one, along with any photos you’ve uploaded. Scroll down a bit, and you’ll see data. Scroll down a bit more, and on the left side there’s a navy blue “Edit” button. Press that button. Then go to the entry above for “Current Value” and use your cursor to remove that figure so nothing shows, then hit the new navy blue button “Save”, then refresh your screen. You may have to do this process twice, but the actual value currently shown in the PCGS Price Guide should automatically now show as the Current Value for that coin, and going forward, as the PCGS Price Guide changes in the future for that coin, the computer will now do as expected, and automatically change that figure as intended. When in the “Edit” mode, DO NOT plug in the current Price Guide value, as that will lock out the automatic price updates for that coin going forward.
Now, if I’m wrong, and I misinterpreted the OP, it reminds me of a situation last month when I attended a seminar in Boca Raton. Late that afternoon, shortly after the seminar ended, my wife was watching the TV, and the local news was showing a car going the wrong way on the Florida Turnpike. She called me, as that was somewhere near where I’d be driving home. She told me to be careful because of that car going the wrong way. I then told her “It’s not one car, THEY’RE ALL going the wrong way!”

I think you have it correct Steve
If I remember correctly at one point when you opened your inventory it showed GREEN when a coin went up in value and RED when it went down in value. That doesn't happen anymore, at least in my inventory

Those colors indicating recent price changes currently happen in the PCGS Price Guide. You’ve probably been involved with the Registry longer than me, as I don’t recall colors being used for recent price changes on coins in our inventory. As you noted, that was at some point in the past.

You couldn’t have described this any better.
That is exactly what I was talking about.
Thank you for your understanding and helping me with this.

All I notice is that the amount I've manually input for what I paid for a coin is often above the stated PCGS current value! So, if the PCGS value is intended to be a generous retail price, then I'm the idiot who has paid more.

You and me both! I'm definitely in the red when my inventory's total cost is compared to my total PCGS Price Guide worth. Lol!

Maybe but you buy banger coins that carry top premiums, yes?
I only use my inventory for insurance purposes, so I use approximate retail, on the generous side.
pricing is very very hard.
It's like catching water in a strainer !
10 MS65 coins may have totally different with different pricing!
