Bitcoin hit 80k for the first time. Would you consider collecting physical bitcoin, especially the one make with silver or gold?

No. I'd rather collect tulip bulbs. At least they are real.

No. I missed that boat by not buying in 2011, I'm not getting on it now.
You might miss the fun. Auction houses already joined the party. Ha has even put couple bitcoins in their Hong Kong auction to test the Asian market and will has a major bitcoin auction in January.
Last year when it was at 30K, I was very sure it was on its way up.
But being an old timer and also a Gold bull, I just couldn't pull the trigger and invest.
I'm confident with time (and I have no idea how long) that two things will happen with Bitcoin........
One, it will still appreciate to great heights, then two, it'll crash to almost nothing.
I prefer to take the chicken route and invest in sound money.
Bitcoin vs. gold is akin to the old fable of the tortoise and the hare and it's obvious which is which.
Ha private estimated for this coin was 10k. I was the high bidder when the online bidding closed but I lost to the live bidder. I believe this coin might hit 100k when it show up on market again.
Have none, want none, accept none.
Is this like playing in rattle snake pit?
So are physical bitcoin, which is what the OP asked about.
You don’t need to buy loaded bitcoin. You can buy unfounded or redeemed bitcoin for the fun.
I look at it as collecting old poker chips from Las Vegas casinos. As far as virtual bitcoin and bit coin mining, I'm all in in. For anybody not in, now is not the time. Wait for it to settle back to $25K BTC, there will be more opportunities to get back in.
Never.
Are they merely symbolic at this point or actually redeemable for anything? If redeemable what would you ever buy with an $80 million coin? Seems like they might be fruitful for the counterfeiters.
I am sure it is redeemable. I don’t know how many such loaded coin exist. I bet is less than 10 possibly less than 5. You don’t need to spend 80m at one time I believe.
You can buy .10 or .20 physical bitcoin with load or without load (unfunded).
That particular coin you linked to the golden cas, or whatever, is unfunded.
But at the time of issue, it could have been bought for $5500! Man, I wish I was thinking ahead back then instead of playing with my Civil War tokens. 😆
I could own every single one ever made with the flip!

"Coin collecting for outcasts..."
It's essentially exonumia, no different than other tokens. I'm not sure why people want to hate on them.
How many has PCGS graded? I believe at least one. How do you tell if they are funded, do they have serial numbers?
This coin sold for $1,698,750 in November 2021 by GC. The return for the buyer is unbelievable.
I never believed in bitcoin. However, good for the people who bought it couple of years back. But I'm personally will never touch it and I might even consider shorting it via ETF.
I suspect that all the money on Bitcoin has already been made.
Not if Trump put it on US money reserves
Ha has a good article on physical bitcoin.

Not likely. My cousin has a large Bitcoin mining company. That’s one way to make money off it. It keeps hitting record highs as well.. that’s another way.
I knew that they graded at least one that sold for a million or more. I wonder what the grading fee was. Whatever it was a good investment. Some are predicting that electronic bitcoin may hit $1 million.
I don't know about hitting 1 million but I think it will hit 100K next year. It is not too late to get some nice design silver or gold physical bitcoin. If your has bank roll you can get with loaded if you don't you can get one unfunded or redeemed. From the answers you can see not many has or collect physical bitcoin, so it is not too late at all.
If you had said that a week ago, you would have been horribly wrong.
Detroit is going to accept it for payments.
Right after I'm done collecting Beanie Babies.
I could tank the price myself, all I have to do is buy a bunch of it.
I’m interested to see what the price volatility will be when all 21 million are mined and zero available to be mined.
I'm interested to see what the price volatility will be when people realize that they are imaginary money and aren't even real.

Despite what he has said in public, I think it’s more likely he’ll go the CBDC route and tank BTC.
As for collecting physical Bitcoin, maybe when the digital stuff goes to zero.

Are you referring to Federal Reserve notes? Or financial derivatives?
I don't know how old you are Perry but your age is showing. If you don't like or understand the technology that's one thing but to call it imaginary money is outrageous and short sighted. You are the same group that will pay thousands of dollars for a piece of silver because of what's printed on it. Is that not imaginary money? You are giving a value to a coin because of rarity. Same concept here buddy only 21 million bitcoins exist whether you can "hold" then or not, by the way can you hold the money in your bank account no? Same idea. If you don't believe in Bitcoin that's fine but to think that It will go to zero just shows how stubborn people can be to accept and adapt new technologies. The fact is the world is moving towards AI and digital currencies, Bitcoin will be the leader. And if you don't understand that Bitcoin is limited and anything that can't be made again will go up in value, then maybe you're not a great coin collector. But further than that there is no currency that allows me to send money across the world anonymously, as long as their are shady people in this world, Bitcoin will have value and be prevalent. If you want to miss the boat that's fine but to act like everyone else is crazy is diabolical.
But as an example of how much I believe in Bitcoin. After I graduated college about 12 years ago I started putting a decent chuck into Bitcoin because I saw the value and the vision. My parents at the time thought I was crazy. I'm now under 40, retired and have a seven figure net worth higher than my father that is a physician. So you can call me crazy, but crazy rich. Take it for what it's worth but I will never count something out that has the potential to make me money because I don't understand or agree with it but hey that's me
I'm just wondering why these clowns come to mind when I think of bitcoin. 🤣 😂

Their fraud involved normal securities
True but you get my point.

Same as young athletes. Too much money too soon. What they did was more akin to Bernie Madoff than anything specifically crypto. They just made their money in crypto originally.
Many Bit coins (none of them shown here) are some of the most attractive and colorful bits of metal ever made! It is too bad they became so expensive. I only own one copper round imitation w/o a colorful hologram I got on Ebay.
IMO, the quarter size, thick silver, PL ones with gold gilt and a full hologram are some of the best looking.
There is even a Reference book on collectible Bit coins already. As an investment it is a wild ride. The future will tell us if they turn out to be the 21st Century tulips.
Yep. It’s part of the digital future.
People can collect what they want but I’m not into physical bitcoin.
Chuck E Cheese tokens were part of my childhood and are more interesting at this moment (and I don’t collect those, either)
You forgot to include a pic of Charles Ponzi.

Reminds me of the Dutch tulip bulb mania during the 1600's. It's another Ponzi pyramid scheme and when the bubble breaks, some people who got in early will make money and others will be left holding the bag.

There are countless examples of products, technologies and companies that the old
guard thought were bubbles that ended up being the future. I don’t know where bitcoin will end up, but completely dismissing it seems a bit rash.
I agree ! Even in terms of a flip.
I honestly regret not making the move earlier in the year (or was it last year?) when bitcoin dropped to $15K. I KNEW it was a trend to go up, technically.
A flip would have scored good harvest toward other investments !
No.
Been there, done that. Made some $$$ but not nearly enough to compensate for all the time wasted watching it go up and down

Congrats to everyone that bought the Casascius Physical Bitcoins back in the day. We had a client who bought a few at $30 each - he sold one at over $80,000 recently (when BTC was $64,000).
