State Quarter collection

Hi everybody, my father-in-law unfortunately passed away last month and we have a small coin collection. The one part of his coin collection that isn’t small though or his state Quarter collections. I know most of them are not worth that much over a quarter but he has them all separated by state and mint mark and rolled up. Uncirculated and many circulated he would have his daughter go through her drawer at the grocery store. She looked at picking out certain states with certain mint marks.

The coin collection is being split between three people, and the other two are just going to trade in or spend their coins so I am wondering if it’s worth picking out any particular states and mint marks?

Thank you in advance for any help

All worth 25 cents, regardless of date or mintmark. A couple varieties are a different matter (Wisconsin extra leaf) but I'll let the CRHers jump in and tell you how to spend 3 weeks trying to find a $100 coin.

  • Thanks for that. There is about $10,000 + in state quarters. We still cannot find his clearly double stamped silver quarter that he loved so much.

I'm sorry to read of your loss.

Unfortunately, the state quarters, as you have described them, are worth exactly face value. That is, if you have $10,000 in state quarters all rolled up from circulation or the bank then they are worth $10,000. The "double stamped silver quarter" leaves me scratching my head by its description, but it does not leave me optimistic as to value.

I believe if it were me, Id get three blue Whitman folders and make a trio of sets using the best looking quarters and sell the rest.

Yep - that's the problem unless you have original rolls - So many minted they are just worth face value. And it makes no sense to spend the money on grading fees because there is no demand for them to make a profit.
