Best Macro Lens for Canon R50 Body?

ConnecticoinConnecticoin Posts: 12,838 ✭✭✭✭✭

I recently purchased a Canon R50 body and just figured out that the 100mm macro lens to my old Rebel T2i is not compatible (yes, I should have figured this out previously :| )

Any recommendations for a macro lens for the R50 body? Thanks in Advance!

I've got the EF body and a bunch of EF glass - but my daughter-in-law has an R body and she sprung for the EF/RF Adapter and she's happy with it. It doesn't have any optics in it, so my understanding is that it doesn't mess up your images (like, say, the 2.0x telextender does!)

If your 100 lens is the only EF mount lens you've got, it may be time to buy an RF mount lens and let that 100 go. But if you have a couple of lenses - the adapter may be worth the $129. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1433717-REG/canon_mount_adapter_ef_rf.html

If I go to an R body - I will absolutely buy the adapter and use all my old lenses. No question.

You can do very well with an inexpensive enlarging lens with adapter and helicoid. It will also let you go higher than 1:1 magnification with at least as good image quality as your 100mm macro, depending on the lens you get. If you want some suggestions I can make them.
