That's a bargain! Three still available. Seven sold already. Does Bill Bugert know about these?

has negs for private listing - "counterfeit"

Reported this earlier before sold
Reported. I included the editorial remark, "this one stinks." We'll see how their AI responds to that.

eBay is now overrun with counterfeits. I reported 5 today and saw several more. I didn't report the guy with a half a roll of 78-Ss. I may need one for my Dansco. It's a new die marriage, too!

I got the same thing.

I need this date!

I filed four replica coin notices with eBay for obvious fake coins with multiple examples being sold like this 78-S. eBay said they found nothing wrong with all four of the listings. How can they say there's nothing wrong when the seller is selling 17 of them for less than 0.1% of the actual book value? Shouldn't that be in their algorithm for detecting fraudulent coin auctions?
eBay is now protecting crooks and has become a "den of thieves."
16 sold, 1 left (👎)
I just reported and this came up:
I tried their new reporting system. It provides more character space for explaining problems, which I used to make a clear logical argument that the coin is fake.
It didn't make any difference. They found no issues with an auction of one of 17 1878-Ss they have for $41.99 or best offer.
We 're deeply embedded in a post-truth world these days, I guess.
i've sent similar detailed reports and a csr didn't find a violation
the best i can guess is we need to report these in numbers
when I see coins from China, low feedback, multiple negatives, including indications for counterfeits, I pass. It's unfortunate that so many of these were sold as I suspect that in the future, some of those purchasers will attempt to sell them on the open market via eBay , or elsewhere, at a higher price. Buyer beware.
The seated Liberty half offerings on eBay are now overrun with fake coins from China for $35 to $45.
I still need this date. Extremely reasonable price. However, I must examine my options for a better deal.

I should have waited until now to build my set, way cheaper. F
Most of other U.S. types are being overrun by fakes on Ebay as well. I see so many 1921 Peace dollars with photos of genuine coins, with a low price and the dangerous "from China" warning. Never seen so many counterfeit Capped Bust half dollars, that series has been generally safe from well produced counterfeits in the past.

May be a group of dealers need to get together and send a letter to someone up the chain at eBay pointing this problem out. It seems that the automated responses to reports of counterfeit activity don't seem to get much attention.
Alternatively, maybe somebody who got burned might file a class-action lawsuit against eBay particularly, if that particular item had previously been reported as having been counterfeited. if it's going to cost eBay money, that certainly would get their attention.
Has anyone on this board bought one of these items? If so, was a test run to determine the metal content, silver or otherwise?
Does eBay make good and reimburse purchasers of these fake items? Certainly there would be no recourse to obtain reimbursement from someone in China particularly, where negative comments have indicated no response to communications.

There are cheaper ones being offered for just over $20 now by other dealers. Others are being auctioned off. Hurry, they only have a few hundred of them and they're going fast!
I wonder if I can get an "Ebay Hoard" designation when submitting it for grading?
As noted the 1806 sold; not a quarter and not PCGS as listed, what else can you tell me about the coin? I am not an expert on the series but couldn't attribute the variety using PCGS CoinFacts...
Aren't all classic coins still considered legal tender? Couldn't SS go after Ebay for knowingly facilitating the sale of counterfeit currency by not taking action when presented with evidence that a coin is fake?
i would start a new tread for that coin. it's not my series either and if you can' attribute it via cf the i wouldn't be able to either
it appears the circ cam look missed a couple of obverse stars
And the 13th star jamming into Liberty's breast is suspicious.

That happens, especially back in the era of handmade dies. In my comment above I attributed it.
