Freddie Freeman. HOF?

craig44craig44 Posts: 11,348 ✭✭✭✭✭

I think so. He will be going into his age 35 season next year. he has accumulated 2267 hits, 343 home runs, 508 2B (including one season of 59!) an OPS of .899 and OPS+ 142, 60 WAR and 1 WS MVP, 1 reg season MVP (although it was the covid year)

His rates will go down, but the counting numbers will go up. I dont think he will make 3k hits, but if his next 2 years are great it is a possibility. he should eclipse 400 home runs

If Harold Baines is in, Freddie is a lock, right?

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Yes. He will be in easily. His WS MVP was the cherry on top too.

If you say yes, you could be right in about 8 years.

Say no and you have to wait 30.

    Maybe longer.

Unless he really drops off, he should be a lock.

Absolutely. The only question is what hat he will choose. He has a shot at 3000 hits as well, at 2300 plus now.

Almost certainly ATL. He wanted to stay in ATL and his agent didnt tell him the final offer that was close but not as much aka less commission for the agent and Freeman fired him over it after signing with the Dodgers

I sure hope he picks ATL.

Definitely. The only thing that could keep him out is whatever the hell it is that has kept Dick Allen out, and I don't Freeman has that problem. Freeman is a beast at the plate, almost as good as Allen.

This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

I am in hopes Allen will get in this year on the VC. If memory serves, he was only one vote shy the last time.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Freeman will benefit from his postseason appearances to ride (undeservedly so) into the hall of fame, just like Jeter did.

I am sure that will be very interesting television!!! I should have recorded it.

Freddie is precisely where George Brett was at age 34 or 35.
OPS+ of 142, then Brett’s old man years dropped his to 135.

Dallas- lack of longevity has kept Dick Allen out of the HOF. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong but that is the reason.

I don't understand the argument against Dick Allen either, unless there is a requirement for aggregation of stats. I guess you have to decide for yourself if you only want players who have put together a 20 year career, or if 10 excellent years is enough for a guy like Allen.

I think Freeman has done enough to deserve consideration at present. If you think he's undeserving, why? Does he need 3000 hits, 500 HRs... he's putting together a Clemente-career under everyone's nose.

The voters didn't like Allen because he didn't kiss their a$$es. He wasn't the most outgoing guy. He was kind of a strange guy.

When he first came to the Majors, the writers called him "Richie" Allen. At some point he requested that they call him "Dick".
Some of the writers then started calling him Richie "call me Dick" Allen, showing their childish side.

He did have a shorter career, but it was long enough to qualify for HoF induction.

There's a great story about him (written by Jim Kaat) in the book
    "Cult baseball players".

Dick Allen getting in would open to many flood gates. If he gets in the Andruw Jones has to be, and you can even make a very strong case that David Wright should be in etc. While Im more fine players that were elite for 10 years over guys that play for 25 and were just good, there has to be a line somewhere. We shouldnt keep watering it down

We are long past that stage. The insatiable need to keep putting in above average guys (needing to be compared to marginal HoF inductees for part of their argument) means the Hall of Fame should be renamed the Hall of Very Good Guys.

I was comparing Allen to Clemente. But sure. Clemente was, offensively, and at best, 40% above average. Not that great.

The always possible injuries may derail FF amassing more stats to legitimize his qualifications for the HOF.

They could but Votto is probably getting in and Freemans stats are identical to his so if Votto gets in Freeman should be able to retire tomorrow and get in

Freddie is going to get in his first year. He'll finish with 400+ homers, right around .300, good OBP, an MVP, a slew of top-10 MVPs, two rings with at least once hit in every WS game, and so on.
