Wilmington Card Show

I went to the Wilmington Card show this past weekend. It was a great show and I was able to pick up many inserts from the 1960's Topps cards. They were hard to find even at this show. Most of the dealers were great and we had some good conversations. I did have to laugh at one dealer. When he added up my cards that I wanted to buy he came to $71. Instead of me breaking another $20 because I had a $50 and $20 in my hand, I asked if he would take $70. He stopped to think for a few minutes and was really put off that I asked for a discount. He said yes but clearly was not happy about it. My friend said I should have walked away over the $1.

Sorry to disagree with your friend, but walking away from a deal over $1 makes you more petty than the dealer.
    I'm glad you didn't!

thank you for the write up. I love hearing card show reviews.

We have a smaller show up here in central maine that i set up at every other month. 95% of the dealers here, including myself expect a negotiation. i cant imagine a dealer haggling over a dollar. I actually love the negotiations when making deals.

I went to the show as well. I didn't pick anything up except for some display cases and autographs from a couple of guests. I bring a few items to submit to Beckett. I did spend a few hours walking around and checking out every table. I love going to this show every year.

Hey Craig, what town do you set up in? I lived in Lisbon many moons ago and remember going to shows in Augusta but don’t remember many others. Of course I was 15 then and the internet didn’t exist.

Were the lines for BGS grading long?

It is in Bangor. This place was a sports card waste land for at least 15 years, then a guy started up a show again here, maybe 6-7 years ago. Show runs 6 times/year. It started with 25-30 tables and now there is a waiting list for tables and the venue is about maxed out at around 90-100 tables. The hobby is pretty healthy in Central Maine right now I would say. Lots of kids wheeling and dealing at the shows as well.

And yes, there was a good show in Augusta this past summer. It was at the Civic Center. I cant remember how many tables, but it was significantly bigger than the Bangor show. Canseco was there signing autos and there was a grading company there as well as a breaking pavillion.

When I went, there was nobody at the table. By the time I got done with my submission, there were 10-12 people waiting. I didn't really check it out after that.
