Sounds expensive, wait what is a TRD?

Yes, Trade dollar, DDR bid is $1900 for an AU50, $4500 for an AU 58. Probably worth middle money. PCGS did not do the submitter any justice by missing this scarce and easily identifiable variety.

I thought that the 1876-cc DDR are not very rare?
    Obviously I am mistaken

Not rare, But I don't have one. Worth double the money in AU58.

I guess they didn't pay for attribution. I should think GC Auctions would have caught it.

They just say what is on the label for their title/description.

At ANACS we do Redbook varieties for free. As a grader I would not let this go out unattributed. I have no Idea what pcgs does.

It's one of my favorite varieties but it's not that difficult. And anyone can see what it is, it's not subtle. Greysheet for AU50 is $1900. I think $2000 for a cleaned AU is a very strong price

You just read what PCGS does. Apparently, you work at ANACS. AFAIK, both ANACS and ICG will give free variety attribution on obvious known varieties. I suspect that savvy dealers and collectors know this and must take advantage of it. Do you agree?

So someone else cherrypicked your cherrypick?

That and a good bid strategy with the 1 cent.

Oh, that IS a good strategy! I’ll remember that one for sure, great thread.😉👍

We surprise many collectors and a few dealers with unexpected variety designations. I consider it part of the job to try to create value for a submission. Unfortunately that seems to be ANACS lot, More work for less money. I spend some of my limited time looking for under grades and unattributed and misattributed varieties. 3 teenage boys keep me busy.

I have used ANACS for the last 40 or so coins sent raw to GC and saved $800 in fees for attribution. Don't think the holder value cost me anywhere near that. Thank you ANACS. BTW does ANACS do that for regular submission by members or just thru GC? JMO

I have noticed that over a few recent GC auctions there have been some scarce varieties, usually circulated, and unattributed, selling for strong money. I wonder if a variety collector is trickling out their collection over a period of time?

Are you thinking of the F Details 76-S 1/2 Large S and XF45 2/2 Large S from a couple of weeks ago? Or a different series?

I bought the 2/2 just to make sure it found a good home with someone who would appreciate it, even though it's not chopped. I'll re-home it soon.

I would have done the same for the 1/2 also but it was just too problematic and I couldn't pull the trigger.

ANACS Charges for most variety attributions outside of the red book. The general rule is if we have to crack a book, we charge. VAMS, Breen, Snow, Etc. If the variety is valuable to the submitter, but not paid/asked for, we sometimes do it free. All red book varieties are free. J.P.
