Research help / 1804 Mo 8 Reales Brunk counterstamp

Hello everyone,

I recently acquired this 1804 8 Reales with a neat counterstamp. The patina combined with the incuse style of the c/s is just gorgeous in my opinion.

I've been able to identify this c/s listed as Brunk H-701, Rulau Z46g. It reads "C. HOLMES" and has an incuse design.

I can't find much else than that, and the brunk catalog is currently not in my library. Can anyone help me out to find more info? I'd be greatly appreciative!

The listing seems to imply that it's a US stamped countermark.

Not familiar with the countermark, but just wanted to agree that it's a great looking 8R!

Thank you for the reference! Yes it does appear to be a US countermark, greatcollections sold a dime with the smaller c/s in 2019 but that was the only somewhat recent comp I could find.

I was pleasantly surprised when it came to me in the mail. The surfaces are just phenominal. Really glad you agree.

I found reference to C Holmes Rulau Z46G on an 1839 seated dime and there is a Brunk. #19865- not sure if this is related. And this is from Rulau’s 2nd Ed Standard Cat of US tokens 1700-1900.

Very cool 8R. I like it
