I just picked this up off of eBay.
It's a raw coin, so unless you're way off, there is no real wrong answer:

G4 Details. Rims are toast, but the lettering isn't bleeding yet.
Environmental details/damaged.
(Do I see a vice job?)
Never mind, I should've looked at it more thoroughly.

I think the coin has enough detail to be around a Good 6 but there does seem to be a half dozen different forms of damage. James
What made the seller call it a contemporary counterfeit? Just because it looks "off"?

In that condition pretty easy to call it anything you want, but I wouldn't assume it is just because the seller says it is

Contemporary counterfeit, correct?
I'm seeing it now. I'm more familiar with the CBH counterfeits, but I've seen similar 'damage' in an attempt to hide counterfeiting.
Eagles head and angle are all wrong.
Liberty's left (ours) arm/shoulder is all wrong and the wrong angle.
A terrific article for those interested:

Good-6. Looks like there is letters toned on the obverse, on the lower drapery through bottom of shield, and underneath Miss Liberty's elbow. Possibly from the coin resting on a newspaper or other lettered item.
