Duplicate PCGS certification number

I recently purchased a 1961 Washington quarter PR68DCAM with a PCGS cert number of 5026618. Purchased from Great Collections. I believe the coin and the holder to be absolutely genuine..besides, why would someone try to scam on a relatively cheap coin? The problem: This coin is listed as a $20 Gold piece on the PCGS site. So I cannot enter it in my type set registry. I wrote to PCGS and they said they would get back to me. Coming up on two weeks with no response. Not impressed with their service.

Great start to a $20 Gold registry!
No, kidding.
PCGS will fix it lickety-split once they are made aware.

It sounds like “lickety-split” is longer than “coming up on two weeks”.

I have two PCI (old TPGS) Silver Eagles dated 1992 with the same grade and serial #. IMO, both are under graded by a point or two by today's standards.
I know there were issues with 5XX certs being duplicated. Is this in an older holder?
Yes, from 1992 or '93 when I bought them at a coin show.

I know that you should not have to contact PCGS again on the same issue. But, per the OP, it has been nearly two weeks. And, contacting them again might be the best way to get the issue resolved.
Our resident PCGS CS rep, @PCGS_HY, recently posted the following instructions for your situation. FWIW, it appears that their preferred method for initial contact is the "Contact Us" form. If you did not use this method the first time, you might want to consider it for the second attempt.

Looks like a PCGS Museum GEN 3.1 holder (MAR 1993 - SEP 1998).
Edited: deleted incorrect word ("Library"), and replaced it with the correct word ("Museum")
I am absolutely certain the coin and holder are genuine for both coins. As soon as I read your title to the thread I thought to myself "the cert number in question begins with 50". Years ago (like, two decades ago) PCGS came onto the boards and told us that there had been a database overwrite or other mishap that generated duplicate cert numbers for some coins. The coins in question were almost all coins with the 50 beginning. In the past I think PCGS has asked folks to send coins back to them for recertification and a new cert number, but you of course are not required to do so. The 50 cert numbers were used for rattlers with seven digit cert numbers as well as the first generation blue inserts with eight digit cert numbers and might have been used on other generation holders, as well.

Thanks for the replies. i contacted PCGS....again.... using the "contact us" form....
My coin is in a generation 3.1 holder used from 1993 to 1998.
There was a coin I submitted to PCGS for grading in 2012 and then entered in my online inventory. In 2016 it suddenly disappeared from that list and I was unable to re-enter the serial number. I called PCGS, gave them the serial number, and was told that it was a duplicate number. They requested photos of both sides of the slab, then had me submit it for reholdering and a new number. They paid for all of the shipping and reholdering. It was a nuisance, but in the end it all worked out
I'm not sure how they determine which of the two coins should receive a new number, probably it's whoever first reports it to them.
did you try: https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/contact/ ?
Yes, along with a couple of other options. Responses were we will get back to you or no response at all.
@PCGS_Hy
