Must have some basis in legitimacy though and you will have immunity from heckling, mocking of belittling.

Who is ready to step up to the plate?

    Lemme give it a try.

Had the Langbords melted the batch of Switt's 1933 Saints, would the residual bullion have been confiscatable?

Yes, not numismatic, as no longer coins.

I had a question about whether a proof coin could have a luster break.

Just wanted to grease the tracks first.

Yes. The coins are technically bullion currently.

My question is why would you state
“…you will have immunity from heckling, mocking of belittling” when you don’t have control over that?

Yes. Prior to the change in the laws allowing gold ownership again.

One could even argue that the thread title itself is heckling. Why not call this thread a "safe place" rather than a place for "stupid questions"? (To your point, however, only a moderator could actually prevent heckling.)

Is an error coin really an error if it has been intentionally produced?

How can this coin be UN-circulated, if I found it IN-circulation?

"Uncirculated" is ultimately a grade, not a status. ;)

OK, I know I'm probably going to mocked, but when did chop marked trade dollars become so market acceptable.

Forty five years ago, when I first returned to my childhood hobby, "Don't buy chop marked TSs" was the conventional wisdom.

For the same reason that original surfaces, some of which might be considered better off dipped 45 years ago, have become in demand. They give the coin more character. That said, I have no idea what took them so long to "come into style".

Chopmarks have always been a bit of a niche. In addition to what @hummingbird_coins said, there is also more information available and (maybe) more people interested in the history of global trade. Each of these coins has a story, something which many find interesting.

If you more meant, when did prices start to represent greater than basal value? PCGS giving the coins numeric grades was an important driving factor. The big increase in coin collecting brought on by covid supercharged the increase in chopmarked coins.
