HAS ANYONE HAD ANY LUCK SELLING 40% SILVER HALF DOLLARS

pdoidoipdoidoi Posts: 652 ✭✭✭✭

I have a little more than 2 $500. face value boxes of 40% silver half dollars. Where is a good place to sell and is there any chance I can I get silver spot value. There is a show this week in Fresno Ca. this weekend should I try that. I sold a few 90% silver halves about 10yrs ago through Craigslist but I feel this is too much $$ to be using CL.
I told my self I would try to sell when they reached $5 value. So I am trying to sell but only if I can get top dollar.
Any advice from veteran collectors.
I think this is my first posting in this forum. I spend most of my time in the Sports Cards Forums.

Just as easy to sell 40% as 90% ;)

Try the coin show this weekend or try your local coin shop or bullion dealer.

I just checked a couple of dealers buy prices in my area and it appears they are paying about $9 per dollar face.

Thank you for the info ifthevamzarockin.

I just always thought that there was very little interest in 40%.
It seems that every time I see silver coins for sale it's 90%.

At the local suburban coin shops in my area there is definitely low interest in the 40% halves. Back when melt was around $4 per coin, I tried a couple of shops and got offers of around $2. I get melt or above for them on eBay, so the choice of where to sell was an easy one.

I called a coin shop in San Jose Ca and they offered just over $3. I spent a lot of time collecting these, I am not selling cheap.
Either I get my money or I keep them.

I sold every one I offered on eBay, over 6000 coins.

Try a listing on the BST forum here. I have recently sold 40% JFKs on the BST forum. it might be better to sell at a coin show and not have to pay/charge for shipping.

Yeah , I would think shipping would be a killer.

I agree with him, and he is one of the best on here. My dealer is at 9xface also.
