Who do you buy precious metals from?

logger7logger7 Posts: 8,502 ✭✭✭✭✭

I'd generally recommend Apmex, Provident or JM Bullion whether buying or selling.
Has anyone ever dealt with Lear Capital? BBB reviews don't look encouraging: https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/los-angeles/profile/precious-metal-dealers/lear-capital-inc-1216-13059407/complaints

I've bought from Apmex, Provident, and JM Bullion, but my personal favorite is Bullion Exchanges.

If gold coins, Great Collections is a great place to buy. There are a couple hundred different gold PCGS graded eagles for sale there, including some of mine, the next few weeks and many are selling for less than the US Mint's current pricing.

Silver, I like Bullion Exchange. For silver, eBay once in a while.

    costco for coin bullion

  • Apmex with the Bullion card 1 year no interest, 4% rewards and look for the "any quantity" not the "as low as" sales. Gutter and gold, 9fine mint 5&10 oz silver bars also First Spouse gold coins were/are some of the best deals received.
Provident, JM and eBay were always good.

  • I find that JM Bullion is best for me. I have a local dealer that treats me well too. Liberty is always a fallback for me.

I used to buy from American Metals/Barry Farb in Oregon, superb operation, not sure if he's still in business.

Usually either Pedro, Joe, or Ishmael. Occasionally Costco, BGASC, Liberty. RGDS!

I like SD Bullion, Hero Bullion, and JM Bullion. Whoever is the cheapest gets my dollars.

I'll buy from anyone, anywhere if the price is right. I'll sell to anyone, anywhere if the price is right.

Best results have often been buying and selling directly to stackers.

    Bought before from ^that guy^.

P.s. Love the early VH. Fair warning is still my all-time favorite. RCKN!

I target ebay sellers who clean out estates. The guy selling a ton of car parts, vinyl records and old shirts often has some killer coins for cheap. Sometimes it means waking up at 1:30am to snipe an auction but hey I can't complain. I'm also old now so I can't sleep anyway so it kinda works out.

  • Apmex is over-priced. Sure they are large and reputable, but not for their excessive premiums.

Agreed. That’s been my experience, too. In fact, the few sellers I’ve seen on eBay selling for no spot have been these type of sellers. It also helps to look for searching by non-common keywords and/or categories.
