  • It all depends really on your speed. If he is faster, play a little back, opposite if you are evenly matched or faser. Get a good bump when he breaks, it disrupts the route. The key is, always know where the ball is. If you don't look back and just keep your hand up and hit the recieve during the act of catching, you just bought a flag because it looks like you were playing the receiver instaed of the ball. If I have a good secondary, I will eliminate the straight route and force him inside. If the receiver tries a quick slant, force him into the linebacker by making him cut his slant tighter. There is a bunch of ways I used to defend a receiver. Due to the fact I am 29, and haven't played in pads for 12 years, I play flag downtown and am now a linebacker. I let the younder guys that can run all day handle the Wide-outs. I hope it helps you

  • I currently play CB on my football team so here are my tips. Bumping the receiver is a must when he first comes of the line. Not only will it disrupt his route but it will also eliminate him from totally burning u from the get go if he has supperior speed. Never ever turn your back on the ball. If u lose the ball, the end result is usually a catch or a penalty flag. When going for a pick or deflection, always try to get the ball at it's highest point within reach. Contact on coverage is okay but grabbing or pulling will always get a flag. Drive on the ball when it's thrown but remember not to get a flag. If he does catch the ball and u have to tackle him, wrap around his waste and lock your hands together. If u find he just runs you over when u try to tackle him, take out his legs but be careful not to injure him. On run support tackling, just remember the man who gets lower will always win the battle. If he lowers his shoulder and he hits your gut, you'll get the wind knocked out of you and he'll probably run you over but if you get lower than he does you'll take his feet out from under him. Hope this helps.

  • WELL I HAVE ONE THING FOR YA ABOUT BEING A REVICER.( CATCH THE BALL). OR THE QB MIGHT JUST SEND YOU OVER THE MIDDLE AND THROW THE BALL A LITTLE HIGH AND LEAVE YOU OUT TO DRY OVER THE MIDDLE. BASICLY ITS ALL ABOUT MAKEING SURE YOU KNOW WHERE THE BALL IS AND NOT LETTING YOUR SELF GET TIED UP BY THE DB . BEING A DB I WOULD NOT KNOW ALOT ABOUT. I KNOW ONE THING THOUGH DON;T GET ON THE OUT SIDE OF HIM IF YA DO YOU HAVE TO FIGHT TO DISRUPT THE PASS STAY INSIDE CLOSE ENOUF YOU CAN EITHER DISRUPED THE PASS OR SLAP IT OUT OF HIS HANDS TRY TO STAY CLOSE ENOUFF WHERE YOU CAN SEE HIS FACE WHEN HE TRUNS HIS HEAD AROUND FOR THE BALL. IF YOU DO GET ON THE OUT SIDE YOU WILL HAVE TO TRY TO HIT HIM HARD ENOUFF TO TRY TO MAKE HIM EITHER DROP THE BALL OR WISH HE HAD NEVER GOT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE WITCH THAT WILL MAKE HIM THINK TWICE ABOUT CATCHING IT.

  • Good point AlanB, you can usually find out if the ball is to the receiver you are covering by his head motioning. If he runs deep full bore, and then makes a strong look starting his hands up, that's your sign to be a defending receiver yourself. BEWARE OF THE FAKE! If you give the play too good a look, you are cooked. If you have a play at it and can either catch or deflect it do it, but if you don't, go for the takedown. I preferable tried to grab the reciever above the ball when it's brought down. I have stripped alot of recievers, because they are trying to run and secure the ball. I wasn't afraid to peek at what was going on, but never lose sight of your man. If the receiver slows up and turns half hazardly, you can bet the ball was under thrown and it's to you. I have seen alot of CBs get hit in the back because they didn't read the receiver. Getting a big interception is almost as good as a TD, and defense rules. The offence if for the showboat pretty boys.

  • I play RB to and in our offense that is definitely not a pretty boy position. We run 90% of the time.

  • Much respect for the Offensive line, probably the most unrecognized positions unless you stink, then everybody notices it
