1879-1891 SLHD sub-set / only 1 left… !!!
I know that there have been other articles written about this very tough Seated liberty half dollar subset In years past, but I haven’t seen a whole lot written specifically about them lately.
The past couple years working, not only on filling my Dansko album SLHDs, but also as part of this venture, my Subset of the dates 1879 to 1891… (79-90 really).
I have found that although there might be many more XF, AU, or uncirculated grades… Finding these dates in G-VF Is extremely difficult… And of course, that is what I set out to do in building this really fun subset of my Seated liberty half dollar set overall.
… And at this time, I am down to one date to find (1890) and one date to get slabbed (1885)… 🤞
See pics below and would love to know thoughts on this low grade set as well, I would love to also see others that have also built the same/ similar…!!
…would also like to know which are your favorites in this subset as well???

Very nice set, congrats. I think the one that speaks to me the most is the 81.
My only coin from this period.
I just love the 1880 and the 1884. Brilliant collection.

@skier07 That 1880 is a mind-blowing gem! So much so that CAC stickered it though it shows the wear of a VF35, IMO.
@Leeroybrown Hard to pick favorites without seeing them all in-hand, though the 1880 and 1888 are familiar. I think your set is really nice, better than my set in terms of quality for the grade. I like these in low grades because they are condition rarities, much rarer than MS65s in these dates. Your set averages VG10-F12 and appears better matched in photos. Mine is about VF20-25 with more variation in look, though much of that was created by TV. There isn't an ugly coin in your set from what I see, and I think a few more might sticker if submitted.

I like your 84 (mine lost in a knife fight) and likely others if I saw the coins in-hand. Your 82 and 91 would be improvements, though I like my whacky 82. The 86, 89, and 90 are my best coins in the set. The 1881 and 1887 are CAC coins but are nothing special "B coins." They're not comparable to skier07's "gem" 1880.
Here are photos of my set except the 1890. The 1888 is PR61.

I've got a looooong way to go to build out these dates!
I like the 1880, 1884, and 1889.....oh heck, I like them all

It depends on the grade you're looking for. If yours is an XF-AU set, that will take longer than an MS or PR set. A set of VG-F coins would be much harder to find than a set of MS 65 coins. Gerry has a 79 CAC, 82, 85, and 85 CAC in MS65-66 and had a lot more the past few months.
As I recall your 84 is really pretty with blue and green toning, correct? The coin I'm thinking of is one of my favorites of yours.
I like the 1880 and 1885
