This 1806 B-10 quarter has the largest die budget I've seen in the bust quarter series. Would like to see otbers . Thanks Dave

Enlighten me - What is a die bulge? How does it happen in the minting process?

A die bulge occurs when the metal used to make the die is compromised and sinks in after repeated pressure when striking the coins. The die sort of gets indented and won't show the details of the devices. That's the way I understand it. I could be wrong though.> @hummingbird_coins said:
Here’s one on one of my IHC’s. It’s very cool, imo:
Note how the corresponding area on the rev is unaffected.

Interesting thread because just about a month ago, @Bustquarterhound, a mutual friend of ours spotted a dime on eBay that looked like it had an undocumented cud (which was very interesting to him). But I did a little legwork for him and found it to be a known die bulge, on the 1820 JR-6 dime. So, neither of us bought the coin, and I don't have any other die-bulge coins that I know of, so I'm postin' this one, reverse first since that's where the bulge is.
Part of my research led me to this John Reich Journal article link from July '03 (which as I write this appears to be down, but I'm hopeful that it will bounce back quickly): https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/book/529779
