Hi I’m still new to collecting and was going through a loomis coin roll when I found this and was wondering if it was an error on the back of the neck?

Looks like a gouge/damage on the back of Lincoln's neck to me.

This is by far the most common question asked on these forums. 99.999% of the time, it's just damage that's been done after it left the Mint. (It is referred to as "Post Mint Damage")

If you are new to coin collecting, but have a limited budget as most beginners do, I would suggest visiting your local coin store if you have one, and buy some of the raw, more common "type" coins to study and become familiar with. You can buy circulated, raw (ungraded) Buffalo nickels and V nickels for about 50 cents each. Mercury dimes and wheat cents are very inexpensive too. I would start that way, instead of spending all that time and effort to find errors in modern coins.

Anyway, welcome to the forums. You can learn more here than just about any place out there on the Internet.

You've never seen a coin with a cut on it before?

How do new posters manage to get the words to be to the left or to the right of the photos?
