I think that Catlin Clark, Aarron Judge and especially Ohtani will do quite well down the road.
Not talking about extremely rare ones going for 100K or above,
Just the average RC or second year say now around $500 or less

I like post-war vintage cards from the 50s, 60s and mid 70s with relatively low POP numbers (actual numbers rather than percentage) in high end (PSA-8 or better). Players who I like for appreciation include Mantle, Mays, Koufax, Aaron, Clemente, Rose, Ryan as well as Banks and Gibson. I collect these players over the years, not just RCs.
Modern cards do not appeal to me just because the actual POP numbers in high grade (PSA-10) are high, i.e 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan POP in a PSA-10 is 325!!!! This card definitely is overpriced based on the POP.
Yes, I have a few as well. like the Drysdale and Wilhelm also.
Actually a PSA10 Jordan probably would fetch more than a 150K .. not from me however.
Good point about POP
High grade vintage will do well. Caitlin Clark will do really well the next 5 years. Elly De La Cruz's willingness to learn will set him apart. He could legit be a 40-40 threat. Skubal and Skenes are looking like the aces to replace the old guard. Jayden Daniels has the tools to be special.
The best all around player in baseball…….
Along with 1989 Upper Deck Griffey, Those two cards make little sense to me.
It's still very hard believe that psa 9 football cards sell for so low. 1973 Unitas around $175, 1972 Unitas $400. Baseball equivalents are selling for over $1,000 and much more.
Demand
I like OPC cards mainly psa 8's and up of star cards and rookies. Lots of 70's stars and rookies mainly because they are affordable in raw condition.
Nolan Ryan, Pete Rose, Reggie, Mattingly, Ozzie, Schmidt, Fisk, Munson, Bench, Carl Y, Seaver, Brett, etc...
Football Rice, Payton, Emmitt, Namath, Unitas, Barry S, Montana, Marino, Staubach, Bradshaw, starr, sayers, etc
Baskets - Bird, Maravich, Havalicek, Wilt, Dr J, Kareem, Tatum, Jordan
Hockey - Wayne, Hasek, Mario, Roy, Jagr, etc..
This will be a bust or boom strategy... if a boom occurs, it will not likely be in my lifetime. I focused a good portion of my PC on the 1st lic UFC cards. Big fan of the sport since the 1990s... and feels great to get the rare unique items of a growing global sport at the beginning. UFC cards are gaining popularity but the difference from other sports might be the hobby downfall (no teams or seasons).
I think anyone spending thousands on current cards who hold them for 5 or more years are going to lose a lot of money. If someone is buying to flip they can make money. The modern card market will most likely tank just like it did in the late 80's. Manufactured rarities and large print runs will doom the market. Now if you are a collector and don't care if you make or lose money than buy what makes you happy.
Op already got the ban?
Around here, that's celebrity status.
Enjoy the go.
Just a weird dude.
I'll admit, I bought a pair of Tua cards, one graded one rookie.
What a terrible season.
The substantial truth doctrine is an important defense in defamation law that allows individuals to avoid liability if the gist of their statement was true.
Decided to try to find a rookie card of Chipper Jones from the Topps Micro set. Total of 36 PSA 10's. The last one sold for $999.00.
Pop report says there are 33 Desert Shield and 43 Topps Tiffany Chipper rookies in PSA 10's.
Searched ebay and found 8 complete sets at pretty good prices. Some as low as $10.00 delivered.
WOW, are these cards horribly centered. I did find a few Ken Griffey Jr's that look nice, but for the most part, nothing much worth submitting.
Here's the Chippers;
You're telling me.
Agree to all. Clark is really pushing the sport to new fans. Judge is a solid bet. Ohtani on his way to 3 MVPs in 3 years straight and a fan favorite seems to be a good investment.
I collect Judge and have some Ohtani too. I have some of their unopened as well.
The big question I have is whether there will always be demand for the common stuff. I think as long as these 3 keep on doin what they are doing then the demand should likely remain there.
Just like people say above with 89UD and MJ.

Now…what is the take on 80s unopened?
I’m not a great investor but I am a really good 80s unopened collector!
If that stuff doesn’t hold up well my wife will be very unhappy with me upon my passing.
I’d like to think it has staying power with 80s kids like me hitting a point with some disposable income. But I’m usually not great about these things.
John
Hi John,
I consider myself a connoisseur of 1980s unopened too . I think the products that contain the iconic rookies will slowly climb from today’s prices and get back to Covid levels within the next decade. Specifically, I am talking about 1980, 1982, 1983, and 1985 baseball product. I think 1989 Upper Deck and 1990 Leaf will always have a place in collectors hearts too. That said, there is much bigger upside to 1980s basketball, hockey and football unopened. Specifically. 1980 Topps. 1986 Fleer and 1988 Fleer basketball. 1984, 1985 and 1986 hockey. 1981, 1984 and 1986 Topps Football.
Collect what you love! There are lots of 1980s kids out there coming into their peak earning years.
Hey Chris, I know my station in the pecking order my friend. Your collection is what the marginal players dream of acquiring when they grow up!
Right now 1986 baseball is on a huge upswing.
What’s next?
I suppose if I was actually investing, I would follow mintonlypls lead but replace Gibson with Jackie Robinson and possibly add Bench & Reggie Jackson. All highly collectible and liquid.
It started as a hobby…but has become an investment . And Jackie is a good buy…
Yeah Jackie is a good one to have. The history itself, without his abilities, really add to the intrigue of his cards.
Bench maybe #1 at his position all time, great person, hard not to like his cards. And Mr October rose to the occasion time after time in the biggest moments of the sport. Love Reggie (hated the HR's against the dodgers though).
Minton will post up his Bench psa 9, Reggie PSA 9 rookies I suppose.
Unopened boxes are indeed good investment. all of the 1986 unopened is huge. Fleer was always tough to get. Donruss has Mcgriff and Canseco, Topps - ugly step child but hard to get 10's,
Moving forward the hot ones would seem to be 1987 Leaf and O-pee-chee - not really close. Both are around $300-$350 per box. 1988 is a completer dud. I guess Leaf and O-pee-chee again but you can get those for around $40-$50.
Football - the 1987 is about $275 - $300 per box, 1988 about $100 - $125. 1989 about $40 or so.
Baskets - 1989 around $500, 1990 about $85 - $90.
I sold my Reggie Rookie 9 (purchased from a name in the past, Jeff Foy at Card Country as a PSA-8.5, then he encouraged me to have it reviewed …and it bumped to a 9!)….sold it too soon…but replaced it with an 8.5.
1984 and 1985 Fleer baseball in all types of unopened form should be on everyone's list to tuck away. Not easy to find in quantity.
I have 3 runs each of Topps, Donruss and Fleer baseball, 1981-1990.
I have 3 runs of Topps football 1981-1991.
I have 4 each 1987- 1994 Fleer and Upper Deck basketball.
About 200 others not worth burning the calories typing them.
That’s an awesome run of boxes! 3 each of all those sounds like my style.
I’ve been trying to assemble cases where I can.
What I’m stuck on is whether FASC wax is really worth the premium. Rack and cello - sure. But wax??
John
looking for 1988 Fournier estrellas stickers , 1985 Prism Jewel stickers , anything Jesse Owens .
If you're talking about FASC as in BBCE, I think it's more reliable that it's not been tampered with if it's FASC and worth some premium - maybe up to 30%. There's some where it doesn't matter as much, but I've been burned with 'tape intact' or 'factory sealed' before too so I think there's value there in having more confidence it hasn't been messed with. Then again, it still could be GI Joe cards... so YMMV.
Fantastic Jesse Owens Card. Never have seen it before.
