Any particular reason why some slabs have the type on the labels and others don't.

    Correct
    There were the Buffalo nickels and the Jeffersons in 1938.
    The name is to just distinguish the two varieties.

    Another example is 1921 when both Morgan and Peace dollars were minted.

    Another example is 1873 Liberty Seated $1 is 'Seated' and the 1873 Trade $1 is 'Trade'

    1873 SLD and T$, then 1878 T$ and Morgan.

    1913 Liberty nickel, 1916 P & S Mercury/Barber dime, 1916 Barber/Standing Liberty quarter, 1883 Shield nickel, 1839 Capped Bust/Seated Liberty half to name a few others
