Currently in excess of a million dollars . How high? I’m sure the Dodgers were not offering close to this amount…maybe a Ohtani bat and signed ball. My guess is over a million dollars. Maybe Ohtani will be the winning bidder…here is the link:

Wonder what the after auction fees and personal income tax amount cleared from the sale will be.

Goldin charges a buyer's premium which is usually 20% more than the ending price. The seller is charged nothing. With a ball like that, Goldin would actually let the the seller have a portion of that 20%. Taxes are taxes.

I would have made the exact same decision.

The alternative is to get a contrived ~1 minute photo shoot and some other auto stuff that would never, ever get toward seven figures.

What's interesting is the young man that says the ball was stolen from his hand during the scrum. The young man has lawyered up and I would have to imagine that the ball will be in limbo until a court case decides who really owns the ball.

Without indisputable video proof of what happened, I just don't see how the guy consigning to the auction house will have to give it up. However, who knows what type of judge you will get and if the guy may be connected...

    Enjoy your collection!

If you look at the videos, the kid had the ball and it was wrestled away

I caught Brady Anderson's 49 HR during the year he hit 50 at Camden Yards in the standing room only section when I was in my early twenties.

For the Ohtani ball I would have fought to the death had I originally caught it! Eye gouging, biting. you name it, just on principle.

I think most dont know they are about to get a million dollar ball once caught. But I think there is a small group only looking to get that ball at no cost and chasing the game when happens.

Caught a foul at Tiger Stadium when I was a kid. Sits on my fireplace mantle, the wife just doesn't get it.

On a related note, if anyone is interested in the whole process of catching a HR ball at a game, check out Zack Hample's channel on YouTube. He is what is known as a "ball hawk" and he travels the country attending baseball games with the main intention of getting foul balls, toss ups from players, batting practice balls, and especially in game HR balls.

    https://youtube.com/@zackhample

He takes it to an extreme and is very tactical with his approach. He also gives away the majority of the balls he snags to kids in the crowd, not to mention he is so well known he has to take time to sign autographs and pose for pictures. His video editing and filming give a decent sense of actually being at the game, in some ways, making it fun to see parks you might never attend. Anyways, worth a watch if you have some time:

Can you share the video you watched? I reviewed a couple other videos and had the opposite take. If there is a 4th angle I haven’t seen I would love to take a look. The others don’t show the ball so you have to make some assumptions.

  • Reportedly sold for $4.3 million. :o

Last I saw all parties agreed to have it sold. No rulings yet. My guess since no longer time sensitive it will wait until it floats up to top of docket.

At 4.3MM we know Todd McFarlane did not win it :)]

I hope the guy who won the 1979 opc hockey case didn’t win it. Lots of hype. I’d so much rather have a really really nice beach house vs a used baseball. Crazy sale.

  • I'd venture a guess the winner now owns at least one used baseball as well as at least one beach house.

Having the money to afford such a luxury piece is almost as important as fully consuming it to absorb it's power.

Cal Ripken Jr hit a foul ball that landed under my chair at the 1986 All Star Game in Houston. I was 8 years old, and a grown man ripped it out of my hand and ran off up the stairs. The people around me boo'd him.
