For grins I looked up this coin….. and was surprised to see the SAME photo/coin being used in SEVERAL auctions from China, Hong Kong, and elsewhere….and people are bidding on them. Getting scary out there folks!

And here is the original auction!

The good thing is that the scam is that the seller doesn’t actually have the coin and not that the fakes are getting so good that they can precisely replicate all of the marks on the coin.

I occasionally see Morgan dollars offered well below reasonable prices, sometimes with an auction format, frequently with a Buy it now indication. Oftentimes the seller is in China. Once I see China, I make like Forest Gump, and run away quickly. Sadly, people buy these items, and no doubt, they wind up being offered for sale on eBay or elsewhere by others, without the indication of coming from China. Definitely, beware.

Did you report it to ebay? I'm sure their "AI" will catch it.

Fraudulent ebay sellers have been doing this for decades -
save photos from other sellers or auctions,
and pretend they own the item.

The solution is the same as it always was - look at their feedback score, and at their recent feedback.

That might work but apparently they can get a lot of the negative feedback removed before others see it…..

How would they remove negative feedback?

Not easily done, but you can ask ebay to remove it. They generally don't unless it violates a site policy.

If the Neg is not warranted or if the seller reimburses the buyer for the coin, the Neg will be removed.
There are sellers of counterfeit coins who do not have any Negs because of this.

I am curious if anyone has ever bought one of these and unknowingly or knowingly flipped it and it's sitting in someone's inventory or collection.
We have plenty of experts here who can identify the fact that it's counterfeit but so many other collectors have no clue.
I am so glad to have this forum.
