Eleanor Roosevelt

I typically hang in the sports cards forum, but have a different type issue.

My wife is going through her parent's house as they've both been placed in Assisted Living due to Alzheimers (horrible), and came across a letter from ER to her stepmom's dad when he was a private about to be shipped off for WW2. I'm no autograph expert but it seems to match legit ones I've found online.

My question is what's the best place to do the authentication on someone like ER? Who would be the most reputable for someone more cultural than strictly political?

Thanks.

If you could post a photo of it here we can pretty much determine if it’s authentic or not authentic (autopen, secretarial etc). I happen to know her signature very well as I have studied it and her signing habits. She has been known to sign authentically on letters but there are a few that might be autopen (machine signed), printed or secretarial (signed by an assistant).

Since Eleanor Roosevelt is not an extremely valuable autograph (unless this letter has some excellent content) it is likely not worth the cost of sending to authentication companies (PSA, Becket, JSA etc). The typical Eleanor Roosevelt WWII era letter is probably worth about $75-$100 but authentication would cost about $100 considering the shipping, insurance and authentication costs. So probably not worth it.

    I agree.

ER letters are actually pretty common. They have some degree of value because she's popular, but unless it's unusual content then the value is about as suggested above.

If you post some pictures then that would help confirm the situation.

Good to know and thanks for the advice. Let me try to get a photo this weekend and post it. It would be good to know if it's the real deal or a secretarial.

I didn't think it was worth that much, but a nice piece for her family.
