[CLOSED] LordM Fall Celebration Giveaway
Update: CLOSED! @knovak1976 won!
🍁 I love Fall, and am delighted that it’s finally here and I’ll soon have relief from our steamy South Georgia summer! 😰
So to celebrate, here’s a quick giveaway.
To enter, all you have to do is pick your preferred prize out of the giveaway gallery linked below, AND state what made you choose that particular lot. That’s all. No strings attached (except your promise to post a confirmation here after you receive the goods). Free worldwide shipping. Random drawing on or shortly after October 1st, 2024.
https://www.colleconline.com/en/collection-items/21292/coins-giveaway-gallery
There is (as always) a concurrent giveaway on CoinTalk, and the winner of that drawing will be chosen before this (Collectors Universe) drawing. So if the prize you wanted gets taken first by the CoinTalk winner, you’ll get a chance to pick again.

first, there's the mystique of pieces from far away places. then, they're little bits of historic coin diplomacy.
the 100 world coins!
I'll take the Russian wire money. I've always been fascinated by those.
Thx!
The Morgan of course. Best coin ever minted.
Note that one of the new lots (still not yet photographed as of this post) contains a Morgan AND a Peace dollar! But the silver dollars in that 2-coin lot are not as nice as the ones in the individual 1-coin lots.
1836 silver Capped Bust dime because I don't even have one of these in any grade!? Why, I don't know
Cool coin and thanks for the chance
The 1836 large cent
Two reasons. I’m starting a us type set. But this is the year Samual Morse sent the first telegram, as an amateur radio operator, that’s a fun connection to history.
That one looks a little bit better than the wretched photos of it indicate.
But it’s an 1838, not 1836.
(There is an 1836 dime, though. If you end up winning, you may always change your choice.)
Also, wasn’t Morse’s telegraph message in 1844?
Thanks for a chance. The 1793 half real would be a cool addition to my collection if I am the lucky one. Long ago I had some of these types of coins. Somewhere along the way I must have sold or traded them off, but wish I had kept them along with the Pillar dollars I also had.

I’d take the steel cent. My daughter and I are slowly making progress in her “Penny Book” and she gets really excited about the nicer coins. When we go to the lcs they know her and her discerning 7yr. old eye lol
I’d like the 1967 Canadian Centennial set. I recently started collecting someCanadian coins after visiting a relative in Vancouver. This set would be a nice addition to the collection.
peace dollar.. thnx the holyiest of holy
I'll take this:

Just kidding
Chuck on the half real is talking to me. Ola' amigo. Appreciate the chance. Thanks for your generosity. Have a good day. Peace Roy

Oh wow! That German 1888-A 10-pfennig of Wilhelm I is a nice companion to my 1917 5 Pfennig. My mom is German so, I do collect some German stuff occasionally. Thanks for the chance and give away sir!
Exciting! Love the chance at winning something. So far, the lottery hasn’t panned out.
My pick would be the 1943 steel cent. The reason is because my interest in collecting came from wheaties. I never had a good example of the steel ones.
Thanks for the chance! How cool!

I choose the slabbed 1939 cent. I need it as an index for comparison, my gading skills suck.
Thanks, man!
Edit: grading skills suck too.
@dsessom- I’m glad to see that German coin finally get a little love. You’re the first person who’s picked it in any of the giveaways (though I haven’t had it that long).
I really like seeing what people choose, why is why I require they pick something up front. But they’re always welcome to change their mind later, if they win the drawing.
1943 Walking Liberty half dollar, I don’t have a mint state walker in my collection so now would be the time

1924 silver Peace dollar. Thinking about a new/different pocket piece
Then you should pick the other lot that has 2 silver dollars (one Morgan, one Peace). The 1935 Peace dollar in the 2-coin lot is well worn and obviously already saw service as a pocket piece (and then you’d also have a 1921-S Morgan too).
The 1924 Peace dollar in that individual lot strikes me as too nice to use as a pocket piece. But if that’s the one you like, who am I to suggest what you do with it, right?
The Phrygia! Just thinking about the hands it’s passed through and the events that coin has seen throughout its 2,000+ year life! Thanks Lordmarcovan! What a great opportunity!
The walker. America's most beautiful coin. And I agree.
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
(2 coins) United States: pair of silver dollars (1921-S Morgan type and 1935 Peace type)
If I win, one, or perhaps both, will be donated to our clubs YN program.

1896 Silver Morgan Dollar.
The Morgans are the most iconic U.S. Coin in my opinion and it will fit in nicely with my silver hoard

1919 Canada bronze large cent
Being this generous giveaway has such an eclectic gallery of coins, I made my choice based on personal appeal, not precious metal value - My mother was Canadian, the coin is BU and it's over 100 years old, it's graded, it's bronze, and my dog likes it.
A most generous giveaway, thank you.
If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.
Tommy
That particular prize option is a two-coin lot. If you win, you get both coins.
As on CoinTalk, I love that Spanish Half-real. Thanks @lordmarcovan for another generous giveaway!

I really admire a lot of the beautiful artwork on German coins and currency. The Bundesadler (Imperial eagle) on German coins is what always grabs my attention. The style to me is just mesmerizing.
A solid choice. With a Krause value of $140 in MS64, that’s one of the more monetarily valuable lots in the present selection, too. But I like your sentimental reasons for picking it. It is a nice coin, and my darkish cellphone photos of it are horrible.
1896 Morgan because it’s nice
I would select the 1939 Lincoln Cent in NGC holder. It would be an upgrade for the raw example in my set. Thanks.
96 Morgan.
Why: why not? It’s a good looking coin!
Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.
Choice: The 1896 Morgan. Reason: Reminds me of my Dad who loved to "collect" Silver Dollars which were plentiful in Nevada where he grew up.
Say thanks for the shot
I would choose the 1793 1/2 real with Charles IV's portrait to go with my 1792 French 2 sols with the portrait of another ill fated royal, Louis XVI
"Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working" Pablo Picasso
2 coins) United States: pair of silver dollars (1921-S Morgan type and 1935 Peace type)
Because I love both designs )
I assume the 1873 quarter is still available - can't check right now.
If I win, it will fill a hole in my type set. Thanks for the chance.

The Spain: 1793-S CN silver half-real of Charles IV (PCGS AU details) Lacquer coin.
Why? First because it is from 1793 which is a great year for coinage. Second because I don’t have a lacquer coin for teaching purposes!

I'll try. I'd pick the Roman coin because I have no ancients
Which one?
Me down for the Morgan!!

Jersey bronze 1/12 of a shilling looks cool. So put me down for that
We are still in recovery from the hurricane here, but I’ll try to do the drawing tonight (in the wee hours of Wednesday AM), if I’m able to.
Please take your time. Hurricane Helene was unprecedented, and you do not need to stress or lose sleep over this forum contest.

@lordmarcovan You are a gentleman, a scholar, and a generous dude. Hope I'm still in time. My choice would be the 1945-S wartime nickel for two reasons. 1) That's the year my pop, of blessed memory, lied about his age and joined the army. He was part of the Army of the Occupation in France. 2) A wartime nickel is something I don't have, but would love to possess. Thank you.
"Next year we could have an 8 cent nickel. Think what that would mean. You could go to a newsstand, buy a 3 cent newspaper, and get the same nickel back again. One nickel carefully used could last a family a lifetime." - Capt. Jeffrey T. Spaulding
Thankfully we here in Georgia’s Golden Isles only caught the outer edge of the storm, but that was plenty bad enough. While things are now gradually getting back to normal in my neighborhood and at my job (power and water restored- yay!), that is not yet the case for all of Glynn County. Even our “near miss” was bad, and caused quite a bit of damage.
Yep, Helene was nasty. No doubt about it. My old hometown of Swannanoa, NC has been wiped out.
@knovak1976 - the random number generator has smiled upon you, and so YOU WIN!
Which means you have won that Phrygian coin, unless you opt to change your mind. (Have another look at the prize list if you like. I added some new lots, though not all are photographed yet. And none of the new additions is ancient.)

I will message you for your shipping address. Due to post-hurricane issues here, shipping might be slightly delayed. Do please post here later, to let us know when you have received it.

Wow! Thank you very much! I will send you my address and selection choice! This is very kind of you! Regards, karl
For the record, @knovak1976 changed his mind at the end, and opted for this Walking Liberty half instead of the ancient Phrygian coin.
(I’ll try to ship it soon.)
Thank you so much! Can’t wait to add this beauty to my collection!
