Louisville Coin Show 10-12 Oct

Thought I’d inform a few people about our annual coin show. Hope somebody can drop in and shop. Not a big one but, we’re excited. 90 tables. Go to website for hours.

I've not attended a coin show in 15-20 years. I may actually attend this one.

    Thanks @Barbercoin

I have not attended this show in about 25 years. Before that I went every year for about 20 years. I always enjoyed the show. I just needed to cut down on shows that I attend. Have fun and please post show reports.

Will there be anyone set-up to take in slab coin photos?

Those details aren’t shared, at least not with me. This is my first show attendance ever here in Louisville and I’ve volunteered to assist anyway I can. I’ll have to witness everything first hand.

Okay, the Louisville show is complete and looking forward to our next (65th) annual. We sold out all the booths at the Hilton Gardens and needed overflow space in the lobby/hallway. Setup was grueling for some of us older gentlemen, but we prevailed and got it squared away Wednesday evening.

Thursday was exciting for me. It’s been the first show this size (I know I have to get out more) ever. I’m guessing 90 tables total give or take a few. We had a YN area, ANACS space with a show special and a registration table selling raffle tickets and giving name badges.

I did my research beforehand and glad I did because it paid off. But not in the way you’d think. It was my “B” plan that worked. My “A” plan fell to crap when there were ABSOLUTELY NO XF Barbers Quarters I needed. There were some, but maybe a handful at best, mostly commons. One 01s G8 slab. So, my plan B was to find something else to buy which I rarely do. But I prepared a select list of purchase possibilities complete with a price range. I was able to buy a VF35 1804 Half Cent C2 for $260. Without my prepared list I wouldn’t have done that because that was certainly out of my comfort zone.

I also introduced myself to each vendor and gave them my want list with contact info. I wrote them each an email today thanking them and giving them another copy of my want list.

Friday was show staff time, so I was away from active coin buying for half the day. I took note of several things I would do differently should I end up taking over the show next year. Who knows? I did wander around and notice actual exchanges between attendees and dealers. I tried to listen in to gain knowledge. I cannot speak to the numismatic material on the floor because I didn’t really inspect items other than what I was interested in. Sorry.

I did not attend Saturday. Too much time on my feet and spent the day resting. Hope this helps.

There is another smaller show November 23rd for my other club.

Wow! The aisles sure look very narrow. Those pictures do not show much activity.

I agree and had that thought as they were laying out tables the night before. However being a new member, I wanted to avoid suggestions until after the show was over. I didn’t want to step on any toes because they’d been doing this for ever. I also volunteered to run the show next year, but wasn’t received with a warm response or any really. So, not sure where I stand. Seems no one else has offered.

In all fairness, the pictures were taken during the workweek. I can’t speak to attendance on Saturday, as I was home recouping. However, some vendors told me sales were abysmal on weekdays. Local vendors had no problem returning because their costs were cheaper. I have many ideas in my head to increase attendance for future shows and hopefully, I can play a bigger role next year. I’ve got several years of trade show experience under my belt and think I can do it justice. Time will tell.

  • I have gone to this show for the past few years. I went on Saturday morning and picked up a couple of nice buffalo nickels and this '21 peace dollar.
