WTB: 1884-CC Morgan XF45 ONLY
My goal is to put together a complete set of Carson City Morgan dollars in XF45. I'm one coin away from that goal -- the very difficult 1884-CC.
I own 1884-CC Morgans in PCGS holders in both XF40 and AU50. I just can't seem to find the one between those two. Lol! PCGS population on the XF45 is 31. I missed two of those for sale in the last six months -- one at Heritage and the other at Northern Nevada Coin.
The best case scenario would be buying one of those 31 in PCGS holders. I may settle for a CACG, NGC, or ANACS that will confidently cross to PCGS as a straight-graded XF45.
I'd gladly work out a trade for one or both of my 1884-CC's, or pay an extremely fair price for one outright. Let me know if you have one or know the owner of one. Thank you!

Free bump for you. Congratulations on a very unique run of CC's. I do wonder why the 1890-CC was graded 45. It looks much nicer, but it could be that the picture shows it differently than in hand. Good luck with the last 2 coins!
I've always believed that this coin is undergraded, as far as wear is concerned. It is darkly toned -- the darkest coin in my set -- but I don't know if that contributed to difficulty in grading or not. One thing is for sure: With the set being the same grade, you can visually measure the "width" of a grade's range.
When a year had a VAM that was considered a premium over the "normal" strike, I chose the VAM specimen. This 1890-CC is the "tailbar" version. On the 1879-CC, I went with the regular strike, as the "capped die" VAM was the more prevalent of the two.

Ha! I'm discussing that coin behind the scenes with a member here right at this moment. Lol! I saw it tonight and am concerned if it'll straight grade, and if so, at an XF45.
Thank you for looking our for me! I sincerely appreciate it!
