This link is about poor or no decisions at trade time, not failing. The objective of course is to win the WS, many make it to the dance, but I wouldn't call their lack of success a failure. The Red Sox managment were inept in their decisions and lack of preparation to join the fray to garner more competitive players to enhance the performance of the Red Sox team.

But most teams at least make an effort, our ownership group did nothing
Sometimes it makes sense to sit on the checkbook. At least for the guys in suits, not in the stands wearing threadbare jerseys.
And when might those times be?
The Red Sox management made almost zero effort to improve the team, when lack of pitching, both with starters and a woeful bullpen, was generating a glaring hole in the overall standings. The objective being to make it to the big dance, no?
Their decision to, IMO, waste $21m to reup Cora for 3 years was boneheaded and a waste of $$ that might have been directed elsewhere. The Red Sox team has a pretty fair shot now of coming in last place, now playing under .500 ball. Should they in fact end up in last place the team will hit the trifecta of 3 last place finishes in a row...yet Cora is gonna get paid $7m for the next 3 years. It sickens me to think he will earn over $43k per game for the next 3 seasons.

Eleven games to go.
Tigers fired Ernie Harwell in 1990 or 91. Whole town went nuts. I mean Domino's pizza sales dropped in half for a week (Monahan was principal.) Shembechler was GM and lost 3 decades of goodwill earned on the Michigan gridiron.
Correct move was to admit the blunder and resign Ernie to a fat 5 year contract. They didn't.
I was no longer a fan of the team, or any team in any sport. Sure, I'll watch a football or basketball game sometimes, but have no real interest in the winner or loser.
Don't wager on the games either, that is the quickest way to like (or despise) a team. It is an emotion though that ends with the game clock.
But still, athletics are the core of our existence. Honest competition at the highest levels is an art. Just don't expect your favorite owner to match your enthusiasm.
Only need to watch the opening...you can click thru on the bottom line.

It is a business. Not a pastime. Dan Snyder made a fortune on the Skins (sorry, Commanders.) while rarely fielding a .500 team.
Of course its a business. Doesnt change the fact that teams can spend a lot more than they do and still make money and the Red Sox (one of the biggest brands in all of MLB) are acting poor with an overrated GM who was told to cut payroll.
Over 120 million is a dollar less? Will that work at the store?
You really just proved the point.
The Red Sox are a top brand in the middle of the league for spending and would be lower if so many teams below them werent just trying to make money. Padres would be higher if Merrill wasnt a rookie, Os would be high if it wasnt such a young team, even the Nationals are close and a chunk of their team is very young from the Soto trade.
The Red Sox are also a fairly young team this year. There are 8 or 9 playoff teams, and a few division winners, with lower payrolls than the Red Sox. The answer isn’t always adding mega contracts.

At the end of each disappointing season, the players with their 8 and 9 figure contracts, mope all the way to the airport, with their SI model wife and quarter million dollar Porsche and head off to Florida or Arizona to play 4 months of carefree golf.
The fan though, he sits at the Cheer's knockoff bar, drinking $7 bottles of Heineken, hearing the winds of Autumn whistling across the ill fitting windows, and wonders, what about next year?

"I guess that a dollar less than the Yankess will always be unacceptable"
This doesn't say that the Red Sox payroll is $1 less than the Yankees. I hope you know that, but if not - now you do, and if not... wow.

Maybe a class action lawsuit would work. Get to at the least the Wild Card or force a sale to Jerry Jones.

They dont need to put 120 million into 4 guys like the Yankees, but Bloom was brought into cut payroll. They gave away Sale for nothing. You can argue Sale is better with a change of teams but still. They didnt do anything really in the offseason which made Devers angry
It was easy to see this pitching staff wasnt going to hold up all year. Hopefully the fans enjoyed the early games when they were playing above their heads before the stats normalized. Oneil and Duran have been having career years
They arent dead yet with the Twins series but its not looking good. They approached the season and the trade deadline in a manner that they were hoping to be just good enough for a wild card
The blame rests with management from Cora on up and if nothing changes this winter then we can expect 3 more years of the same thing. Management is only interested in buying more franchises and not improving the teams it has. Nascar is a prime example of what is wrong with this management group, They had a good group when they bought in but it has gone south since.

The owners should be ashamed of themselves
There’s talk that the Sox ownership group is interested in buying the Celtics.

Ah, the question was "And what might those times be?"
The rest of what you wrote is just useless fluff.

The more the team wins the more revenue the team gets
More TV contracts, playoff games that put thousands upon thousands of people in the seats, jersey sales ect..
The Sox would be far better off if they were fighting the Yankees for the AL East
