CRHer700’s 2024 GACC Show Report
First off—don’t expect my report to be as good as Abby’s is or Dan’s will be, but I hope to make this nice for everyone.
I pre-ordered a “Thursday only” ticket, so I paid $10.
Report
I left about 7:20 to make the drive and arrived at the convention center parking area at about 10:30 after some amount of driving around the building (somehow I can’t avoid this).
The bourse was much simpler to get to from the parking area than the FUN show was, as all I had to do was climb 8 or ten stairs, walk across the street and ride up an escalator. I had already seen what people had said about there being a sparse crowd on Wednesday, so I was prepared for that. I My main goals this show was to buy as much junk silver as I could and find some nice peace dollars for an album that I am putting together, as well as selling a 1963A star $50. Selling the $50 bill was my first priority, and I stopped by three different currency dealers, but I got offers of $50, $50, and $51 respectively, and since I wanted $60 for it, I turned them down. I expected loose silver coins to be common like at summer FUN, but it ended up being almost nonexistent. 100 silver rosies and 11 peace dollars were all that I got near melt. I ended up buying a 1914-D German 1 mark because I was bored at the lack of low value items, however I found a well worn 1855 British 1/2 sovereign that I couldn’t leave behind. I am really pleased with it, as it was by far the oldest that was offered to me with a low premium. Dan ( @PeakRarities ) wasn’t there the first time that I stopped by his table, but I went over to talk and see his stuff shortly before I left. He has some nice coins, and I ended up meeting Noah ( @rarity7 ) as well. I let uneventfully and returned home. There was a creepy old lady in the lobby as I walked out.
Analysis
I shall conclude with an analysis of the collectors, dealers, and coins offered at the show.
Overall there was only a very small quantity of collectors who were there, and I didn’t see much activity at all by them. Dealers dominated and 95% of the transactions that I saw were dealer to dealer. The gold price jumped close to $50 during the day, so many dealers who were already worried about their profit margin were hurriedly trading gold to each other at almost every table that had any.
I heard several dealers badmouthing Jeff Garret while he was on stage, but I am not sure if what they were saying had any grounding or not.
The coins offered were quite a different crowd than those at summer FUN, with low value silver coins almost disappearing. Gold dominated morgans for once and this surprised me, as morgans have had the largest quantity for a single coin at all of the other shows I have been at. I also saw a lot of large cents and other copper too. The dealers seemed to have brought out their most expensive coins only, and my buying was slowed because of it.
Overall it was a very fun, albeit not so productive show for me.

Comments
If you have to fly in, you have to limit what you bring to sell to those items that offer you the best chance at making a decent profit. That means leaving the junk silver and other heavy (um garbage) stuff to those who are local dealers. If you have limited case space, even local dealers look to higher profit than 90%.

Thanks for posting your report, it was a good read.
Interesting that you saw a lot of large cents.
One of my forum friends stated recently he’s been noticing nicer copper coming to market recently. Perhaps higher prices are pulling them out of strong hands?
I guess I shouldn’t have asked my girlfriend to wait for me in the lobby.
I can almost guarantee that the creepy lady was not your nor anyone else's girlfriend, unless she is about 80, can't figure out an ATM, and is astonished when you say that you own a car. She was definitely trying to pull one over on us.

Hey, to each his own pal.
Thanks for your report!
Thanks for reporting. Always good to have as many viewpoints as possible for shows. Then can have a cross section to ponder.
Thanks for your show report and analysis but you forgot to mention @ThePennyLady exquisite reports in your opening paragraph. 😀
