Another stunning auction result for a 65-RD 1923-s Lincoln!

I think this one surpassed the one maybe 8 years back that sold at HA for 66k plus the juice. That coin was incredible, and this one looks to be nearly its equal although hard to tell from just a photo. I remember Stewart Blay flew out to Long Beach just to try and buy it, but it eventually went to Steve Duckor IIRC. Stewart was standing behind Steve and could be heard saying, “you’d better win this coin, because if you don’t, I will!”
Anyway, for a while there hasn’t been anything close to that result until today. Here’s a pic of the auction page:

Those mid 20's branch mint Lincolns are really tough at the gem level in rd, great result for the consigner.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
My two cents (pun intended). 1923-S Lincolns are generally terrible in MSRB & even more so in RD. Even many BN’s have issues.
Still, it’s surprising to me how much a really nice one like this sold for. Matt’s observation above is spot on: I can’t recall one like this crossing the auction block in quite some time!

I hope the coin looks redder in hand. Can never tell from a photo.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

It's probably about as red as it looks. 1920s branch mint Lincolns are well known for rather pale luster. And it is a GreatPhoto, after all.

I don't find that coin appealing for that grade, JMO.
