Gettysburg Show Report for September 5-7, 2024
The Gettysburg show was Friday, Sept 6 and Saturday, Sept 7 with Dealer setup and early bird badges on Thursday. We had two dealer "no-shows." One dealer said he forgot he rented a table and the other dealer is battling cancer (which I was unaware of until Thursday).
There were zero problems with security. Due to the nationwide problems with dealers being robbed and the threat to collectors, we have increased our security measures. One couple came in at 2:10 on Saturday, did not want to show identification and I refused them entry into the show.
There were no medical emergencies or situations to arise. My wife, Cristina, is the show's Registered Nurse and attends most all of our shows. She works the registration table.
Attendance was down about 10% over our all time high attendance. Postcards went out early and a record number of cards were brought back to the show by the collector, which made me happy. I know the cards are arriving and collectors are reading them. Emails were sent to our email listing twice prior to the show and posts were made to many of the coin chat boards. Marketing was thorough and the show was listed on Craiglist also. I met several board members at the show.
Once again, it seemed like everything was selling. ANACS was accepting submissions and said his submissions were very good and not down. I walked the floor and talked to dealers and the public since I no longer sell at the show. Dealers were happy and the three new dealers contracted to return in November or April 2025.
Standard food, for the Eisenhower hotel show was being sold; cheeseburgers, nachos with cheese, chicken parmesan sandwiches, salads, subs and ham and cheese sandwiches. My wife, myself and Pete McBane ate at Montezuma Mexican restaurant in town which was fantastic, myself, B.J. Knuckles and the Hines ate at Mountain Gate Family Restaurant in Thurmont, MD and my wife and I ate at the local Ruby Tuesday, which was good.
My only purchase was a roll of BU 1972 Mexican silver twenty-five pesos. Reeded Edge (ShortGapBob) had an amazing 1838 O $2.5 gold piece. I liked it, and my wife, who loves gold coins, said: "Buy it!" but...I didn't. If you haven't viewed Reeded Edge's inventory, you need to do so. They have some amazing coins!!!
The next show is the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. If you want a table, give me a call, text or message me. We currently have tables available.

Thanks for the recap. Always enjoy show reports.
Nice report. I assume you mean "1839-O" $2.50 gold piece.
I do not mind showing ID, but I do not want coin related mail going to my house. It shows people that I probably have a coin collection. Can I refuse you copying my address?
With our shows, the signup for mailings is a separate item. If you do not want mailings or emails, you do not have to fill out the form for them. You can refuse providing a copy of your address to security, but you will not be admitted. Once the show is over and it has been determined that no dealers or collectors were followed and/or robbed, we delete names, addresses, etc. It is for your safety, as well as the dealers.
Thanksgiving National Battlefield Coin Show is November 29-30, 2024 at the Eisenhower Allstar Sportsplex, Gettysburg, PA. Tables are available. WWW.AmericasCoinShows.com
