Oversized Slab Storage

Does anyone have a good solution for storing oversized slabs (PCGS and NGC) for coins like the 5oz AtB coins or other world coins/medals? None of the supply dealers carry anything that fits well or built for them. PCGS sends them in a plain cardboard box, but they don't seem to sell the boxes separately and the tops are not the most sturdy even if they did. Something with spacers/slots would be ideal, but I would take anything at this point.

Can you give us the dimensions of the slabs? This might be something you have to whip up in the garage, lol.

Something like what was mentioned in this article?

It seems like you have to go to eBay to find these.

I don't know offhand the size of the slabs, and in any case I am sure they're thicker than this but, I use bank bags that my bank gives me. They're lightly padded, a zipper to close, and can comfortably fit 6 of these when neatly stacked.

That would have been helpful in my first post.

    PCGS says:
    Height: 135.60mm
    Width: 99.60mm
    Thickness: 11mm

They changed design a few years ago, so I have some in the older shape of:
    Height: 152mm
    Width: 98.35mm
    Thickness: 17.30mm

Thanks, that's exactly the type of thing I am looking for, but looks like they stopped selling them as you point out (at least on the NGC store in Whitman) and they don't seem to be readily available on eBay. I'll try to get one second-hand, but not sure they'll fit PCGS slabs.

Thanks for the suggestion. The slabs are about half an inch thick and I have 50+ of them. I've been stuffing them into any random box I can find that works, but nothing fits snuggly like an intercept shield box or one of those generic slab boxes, so there ends up being a lot of wasted space and nothing stacks well.

I should be able to create a 3d printed solution for less than the cost of the NGC box on eBay. If you are interested I will give it a try. I have a single 5oz holder, but it's the Apollo 11 5oz, so it might be thicker than the other holders. I can use the dimensions provided by PCGS.

I guess a cigar box would look kinda tacky.

I thought I saw some on eBay? Wouldn't hurt to take a look

    (Maybe the pcgs web site)

The oversized slabs are a pain in the butt to store. I tend to place them sideways in the intercept boxes but not always a solution. Otherwise, i just lay them on top of the intercept boxes.
